pros and cons of - dry van, reefer, and tanker for a newbie driver

    I have been doing reefer work for the last week and there seems to be as much hurry up and wait than driving time.... It takes the lumper paid $140 to unload 24 pallets with a forklift 10 mins to unload me and then another 3 friggin hours to bring me out the paper work that they tell you to wait in your truck for????? Wtf!!!!!!

    ummm... how often does that happen to you ? i would get a box or two of meat rejected from once in a while. But i watch the produce going in the wagon and rejected loads don't happen

    That is as easy as picking your nose. And my reefer is quieter than your APU or idling truck

    I am leaning toward reefer because of longer runs and not having to search for empty trailers after a drop.
    But I've read that dock workers entertain themselves by harassing drivers. Making them wait etc.
    As a bullied kid, I really don't want to deal with taunting by working adults. How much of this is true?

    Maybe you should go inside and break down those 24 pallets into 48+ pallets and you'd understand that they aren't just standing around picking their nose and such.

    I have had both dry and reefer loads where it takes 2-3 hours to put each individual product that you hauled to them onto separate pallets.

    READ YOUR BILLS and you can have a pretty decent idea before you even get there how long you will be there.

    What is stupid about all that....

    The driver is not allowed to count it when loading.

    The driver is not allowed to count it when unloading.

    But the driver is held accountable for any DSO's. And we are never allowed around the load.
