I have my authority for some time now...
Pros:..1)work when, where and how you want...2) make your own $...tough to do when you deal with brokers though..
3) Better to haul DIRECTLY FOR BUSINESS'...NOT BROKERS...
4) only have to answer to FMCSA , your insurance Company.. and the weigh station officers( if you see them) .
Cons:
1) if your trucks break down, you better have $ to keep em movin'....otherwise they are sitting there.
2) your on the hook to effectively manage your business,PROFITABLE.....the money...the expenses...etc.
(this is a really big thing the company driver to O/O that get's his own authority has PROBLEMS dealing with...
that is ..
in my opinion..why so many company drivers to O/O w/their own authority fail miserly.....BUT THIS A DISCUSSION FOR ANOTHER TIME)
3) finding and retaining a good driver...difficult...
4) dealing with brokers...most don't give a ###### what happens to you or your truck...at all!!!!...in any circumstance...
5) dealing with a FMCSA audit...
6)competing with BIG TRUCKING for adequate rates...(they will accept almost anything to reposition their trucks)...
...also competing with stupid (mostly single truck O/O's) O/O's that haul freight for peanuts...
...there's more...but I gotta grab some coffee ,then do paperwork for Monday morning...in the office this morning...gotta go...
