Thanks for this info Moosetek; didn't know that about Swift having a drop yard here. Good to know that option as long as I'd be here.

Good clarification on the difference between schools; I think I had the wrong term in my title. I guess the decision would be whether to pay for a private CDL school upfront and have more options to (hopefully) consider once it's complete, or go the company-sponsored route where it's deducted weekly or waived after the contract period but locked into that company for the duration.

swift dropyard is actually an estes terminal. we use the back fence my e to drop.
and it does get tight there since estes crowds the isle with parked trailers.
rumor has it that swift is building a terminal in Vegas but not sure how true that is.
I live in my truck.have storage for little crap that I have and gave a p.o. box for mail.

 

Looks like there is or WAS truck parking at The Rio at Dean Martin Drive and Twain Ave in Vegas

Do you get lonely? If not, then you are gonna love trucking. For sure get rid of your apartment and run. Spend that money you save on rent doing fun stuff on your hometime, make it a monthly vacation.
I was happy to have done private schooling , if I had to do it again I might look into a community college course but that takes a while

The best start happens by only deciding on CDL school after a thorough evaluation process finds you a good company to work for.

Anyone can and will get their CDL using any CDL school. The match between your needs and the trucking company is the difference between what can feel like a prison sentence and a great way to turn your life around.

 

I have been really happy with my choice to go to a cdl school on my own, and then choose a company to work for separate from that. I am not under contract to work for a company. I can leave any time I want. My opinion on going to school with a contract from a company is that they don't have to guarantee you'll get miles, and the ppl you work with may be horrible. But you're stuck. Then you hate the life and quit, still owing for school.
Having said that, I have been working for my team based company for 2 years and love it. I drive team with my hubby. We rented our house out to a friend who gets our mail and opens the ones we want him to. We have storage on the property. We take home time anywhere in the country we want to. We still giggle every day saying "lol, they PAY us to drive this beautiful beast!".
