    Trucker's Equipment Kit Bag:

I think I've got the picture now. Every trucker needs to TOTALLY DOCUMENT everything day after day. Digital Camera required. Take photos every time you leave your truck - at fueling stops or docks or parked overnight - to prove that you stopped correctly and could not be the cause of anyone hitting you. Digital Sound Recorder - record audio of all phone conversations with dispatch, and all discussions with law enforcement or scale personnel, and all discussions with loading/unloading dock staff. Insist that all bills of lading are signed so you can read the signatures. Extend all the pages of your logbook so the sheets (using scotch tape) are legal-size paper (8" x 14") and keep them on a clipboard -- you'll need the extra room for detailed diary reports of your activities every hour. Never leave your company truck at the shop, or pick it up again without taking pictures of everything you wanted to have fixed. Bring a receipt book with you, with two-copies per page, so that you can record, and have a staff company person sign off for, every piece of equipment you take for your truck, and every piece of equipment you return to the company. Take photos of your own CB, refrigerator, TV, computer, hot plate, whatever - and keep the receipts in your wallet at all times - so you can prove these appliances are your property in the truck. Did I forget anything?

    And still smokin'.

I've had discripencies that I wish had been better documented, and, my number one rule for business is: "IF IT AIN'T IN WRITING, IT AIN'T TRUE!"

A digital camera has helped me more than once. A cell phone camera has enabled me to make dispatch ####, as well.

A hot seller is the "Dispatch Buster" which is nothing more than a little cassette recorder with a suction cup mic to attach to the ear piece of a phone. Great idea, better marketing. Qualcomm sort of eliminated the need for many drivers to record what the boss' instructions are.

2xR, wanting to hear the rest of this story.
