so I have a regular route that takes me all through Baltimore Md . I spend three days up there in this dump every week and constantly have to worry about what kinda crazy s*** im gonna run into next.I would like to carry some protection with me but don't know the laws as im coming up from va every week. even if I have a concealed permit in va can I carry in Md? or do I have to apply for a permit in md. I hadn't had any problems until last week. I got into a situation that I thought I was gonna get jumped by a bunch of hoodlums. Now I want to have something for protection. Ive been on this route since September and the next bid comes around april and I can get on a different route. The company does not allow me to carry but at this point I don't give a #### I just want to make it home to my family every week,I can always get a new job. Any advice or info is helpful. thanks

I think you probably need a .45
-
You may want to discuss this situation with the trucking company that you work for. -
Someone once said something on here about getting some wasp spray. Sprays far as hell and will sting they eyes. Keeps the bugs away too.
I do some adventure riding and follow those forums and one thing they suggest that is legal everywhere is a flare gun. Just sayin'. You could, say, be trying to send up an SOS signal when you 'accidentally' pointed it at the attacker. Not suggesting this but accidents do happen.FloTheWaitress Thanks this. -
Maryland does not allow a carry permit from any other state either.....So do not get caught if you decide to carry...
My .45 is like my Visa card....I don't leave home without it! -
The problem with bug spray is that its effectiveness is greatly reduced if the attacker is wearing glasses or sunglasses.
Flare gun projectiles have a tendency to bounce off of things, and then you have a 3000° chunk of burning metal rolling around on the ground. Or, it bounces and lands on your (or someone else's) truck, where it burns a hole through whatever it lands on (the fuel tank, maybe?).
A much better choice would be a 5# dry chemical fire extinguisher; you may already have one mounted in your truck. A blast of DC in the face not only blinds them, it gags them so they can't breathe. Then, once they're staggering around, coughing up a lung, you give them a good whack upside the head with the extinguisher can. (The ones with the hose are great for that...)chalupa Thanks this. -
If the company is sending you into dangerous areas, find another job.
If the danger is from you being not aware of where you are....or you making a choice to head into stupid areas or engaging in activities that will get you in trouble...you need to make a decision to change what you are doing.
I see trucks parked at bars, strip clubs, seedy areas of town, and notice a lot of drivers do not lock the tractor doors when they leave the truck, or sleep...
Even in truck stops, the smiling guy who walks up to you, or your truck, is not always your friend. -
Bear spray is another option, and it is fully legal in Canada. Pepper spray for use on people is not.

2 carry and get cought and you might get out in time to see your kid off the the Sr. prom
3 find a job
It's your choice -
I knew a Driver that he had to go in a bad area in New Jersy and at night, he wore bullet proof vest and a Military Helmet. Not kidding!
