Long story, here it goes. Wondering how poked i am because of this. Was just denied employment because of a incident a year and a half ago. Start off I did not have my CDL at the time of this incident. I was 9 months at my new job and at that time 99 percent of my driving was in a hd diesel pick up and a 48 ft 5th wheel 2 axle trailer. Entire combo gvwr under 26000lbs so only needed a health card. Since I was being sent on a 600 mile round trip the company made me take the other 50 ft 5th wheel trailer because it was a triple axle trailer. Well 3 axles meant 18000 lb gvwr on trailer and 30000lbs total with truck and to top it off the entire combination wasn't licensed properly. Went thru a scale and was pulled aside more than likely because of trailer not being licensed right. DOT officer came out carrying a creeper and proceeded a 30 minute inspection. Everything was good except i had a crack in a leaf spring. Pretty small but in a main spring on the trailer. I was taken out of service, given a ticket for being 13000lbs overweight ( I only weighed in at 24 and change), and finally but biggest only given a warning for driving a CMV without having the proper class license. The DOT was actually pretty lenient on me overall. The overweight ticket was reduced to 1300lbs and company paid it but now that warning for driving a CMV without a license killed me with one company I just applied at because of my psp report. Spotless dmv record, I just pulled it. I now know differently but at the time of this I didn't fully understand the gvwr ratings and my complete liability as a driver for equipment, safety, and understanding laws and regulations regardless of ownership of vehicle. At the time I saw the trailer rating and did the math but thought we were operating in some gray area because I weighed under 26 and why would the company send me out in it otherwise. Sure insurance would have denied any claims if there was a accident of any sort. Man was I wrong. So fast forward to now I have my CDL with combo and air brake and have 1 year experience and I'm at the point of looking around at other companies. So even though I was never charged or convicted of driving a cmv without a license its right there in black and white on my psp. Is this gonna kill me with a lot of companies? Guess the only positive is I'm already half way thru the 3 year period the psp covers. Really sucks and ignorance is no excuse but can be a tough lesson.

Dozens of companies will hire you. What type trucking you looking for?
Milkman719 Thanks this. -
Right now I'm home every nite other than a few trips here and there I volunteer for. Looking to stay local but if I found the right regional maybe.
-
I know I don't have it that bad currently. Now I'm seeing those 65-70k jobs and wondering. Currently gross about 1000wk and it would sure be nice to net that.
-
1000wk for local is pretty good.
Depends on what you like. I didn't like local at all and prefer running the roads. Some regional runs have you home for 34 hr. resets and other times during the week. -
Dumb question but Is there companies that would let you float back and forth between in town and regional? Be nice to change it up and not always do the same thing.

Yeah I look at Indeed and C-L every other day now.

Well my psp report has killed me on another job. Both of those were pretty big carriers I beleive. Apparently there is no gray area in that I was driving a HD pick up. To these companies I may as well been driving a semi. Was told about a Data Q's website. Going to see if I can have it removed but have also been told your best chance to fight the stuff is 6-12 months from the time of the incident.
-
- Well after going to the site I think I'm stuck with it. Here's a paragraph from FAQ's. -------------Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) records do not contain written or verbal warnings issued on behalf of the State. What appears to be a State warning may be an FMCSA violation noted during the inspection. The State exercises its discretion in deciding whether to add, remove, or edit a violation. Inspectors record violations on an inspection to document the inspector's findings and observations at the time of the inspection. In most cases, removing a violation from the inspection report would require, for example, some proof that the violation did not exist, was recorded in error, or listed multiple times. If you believe you have been issued a violation in error, you may request a review of the violation through DataQs by choosing the option “Violation is incorrect or listed multiple times.”
