Howdy All,
Some of us have been doing this for quite a while. Just be sure to use a air bladder or air cell articulated type hitch to protect the RV trailer frame from the twisting it will be subjected to by the tractor suspension which WILL crack the trailer frame over time.
DaveMidlife, autopaint and Slowmover1 Thank this. -
Nothing like turning “going camping” into a job.
These rigs crack me up.alds Thanks this. -
You aint in a hurry are you? Drift somewhere nice, soak your local until you know it well and want to move on. Get a job flipping burgers until you have the food and fuel money for the next spot. Drift there. Repeat.
At the auction house I learned how to do RV driving of all kinds and some of them were houses essentially. Not too fun to drive.
At one time I thought late in life I would have a retired tractor and some sort of RV trailer to go with it. But I don't think that will happen in this lifetime. It would take too much to get it done. But who knows? -
A travel trailer is enough “work”. And the family car to tow it.
Light and easy. Chasing shirt-sleeve weather. Neither too hot or cold.
Nowadays RVs are sold on size as people are used to ALWAYS being indoors.
Note the terrible square footage to window glass area ratio. “Indoors” means cut off from the locale.
A full awning package opened up and big jalousie windows to catch the breeze. It’s downhill as an experience from there.
They want these types shown here they can have them.
X1, I’m third generation on aero all-aluminum travel trailers. More than fifty years. Don’t need a pickup as they’re bad tow vehicles (less stable than trailer). An Airstream 10-15 years old has depreciation zeroed and is still like new (for general purposes).
I have a 30-year old SILVER STREAK nearest to new. If interested, I’d recommend you search out AVION 1978-1990 for a better built TT that will need little. The supply has dried up a bit the last dozen years, but if you find one the interior matches brochure pics, you’re good to go. AS was the bargain brand, but you’ll spend more upfront and long term on them.
Mine is my retirement home.
My retirement won’t be spent at a big truck service facility. Or calling for road service.
Oh, and my TT has doubled in value the last seven years. Maybe more. -
It’s their money , let them enjoy it as they want .
Slowmover1 and spyder7723 Thank this. -
Still, camping is not about slide-outs and TVs in every room.
This observation bears repeating:
The function is to come back a different person than before.

Mr. Cob and spyder7723 Thank this.

Howdy All,
I always thought truckers were kind of an independent breed, but I guess the FREEDOM to live ones remaining years doing what they enjoy is nowadays frowned upon by some if you don't "camp" in a particular way.
I like to travel long distances and bring my TOYS with me, I also like to get up the mountain without being a rolling road block, I also like to have a small car drive around once we get to where we are going to be settled in for a while, so MY choice of truck and trailer may not meet with some folks approval but to tell you the truth I really don't give a ####, it works for me, makes me happy and I am old enough to still allow others to live their lives as they see fit without finding fault with how they do it.
Right now and for the last month we have been camping near Quartzsite Arizona, playing nearly everyday with the rock crawler and watching a movie on netflix in the evening, sure is a nice way to spend the winter, glad I have the rig to do it with. Whatever floats your boat should be the way of it but maybe folks who look at life that way are a dying breed, kinda sad when you come to think of it.
Daveautopaint, Flightline and Traumakid Thank this.
