You really want a vane pump. Especially if your pumping fuel.
Some of our trucks have those Hydrachem pumps, they are nothing but trouble. Slow and messy. -

Watched a mechanic for another carrier, using a plasma cutter, would duplicate the gasket area at each end of the gears on a Roper style [not a 90 degree one like in the picture] and extend one side into a mount bracket that went inside the frame rail tucking the pump up and out of the way and a 3 - 4 inch nipple and elbow got the plumping poking out above and below the frame. Made a nice clean setup, worked well with a side mount PTO.
