I think its quite possible that multiple things can be true.

    A. You can just hook to an appropriate looking point and be fine.
    B. Dot cops in the us cant write a ticket for securement to those points or outside the rail which may or may not exist
    C. It is recommended to not attach to things the manufacturer says you shouldnt.
    D. It is recomended that when a mfgr says what they rate attachment points, you use those

Case in point, c.- Light duty rubrail, clearly marked from mfg, "do not attach securement to spools or rail.

I did a dumb and grabbed 2 spools, tore em out as i tightened the binder. Turned out trailer had nothing but j track and the stake pockets or the lower lip to attach straps. Rail itself was so flimsy attaching a strap to it, you could easily have torn it too with just a winch bar.. was meant to be an ultralight covered wagon

How did you tie those down? I don't see a J-hook rail between the pallets and the curtain.

Im Not them, but looks like curtainside, probably has a tie bar bolted to crossmembers under trailer.

If I’m honest I don’t strap them down. No real need they don’t go anywhere. I haul 30 million pounds of seed a year not strapped. I digress.

if I was to strap it... really simple throw a strap over each pallet. I’ll throw some straps tomorrow and take a pic. And maybe you’ll see why I don’t strap.

And before everyone goes crazy on my for not strapping. I’m only local. 50 miles is a long run for me these days. And yes it’s a curtain van. And no tie bars or any of that stuff. The curtain contains the load. As long as you don’t drive like a jack a?? Your fine. I do strap the curtains to the trailer 25 straps a side!!

I never thought id roll my rig over on the side of a mountain. But it did happen. And none of my load came off the trailer. They had to cut it off. im the only guy that chains down my rock loads and used to get #### for it because its more work and takes longer, but its the right way. You can do what you want , but its just something to think about. If you were to have to make an evasive manuever to avoid an accident, your trailer will be destroyed , a freight claim up the ###, along with a cleanup bill, and thats if the product doesnt fall off and kill somebody. Is it really worth it to save 15 minutes.

what ifs are great! The thing about grass seed is strapping them really does nothing. Think about it. You have 35 bags a pallet double stacked. You throw a strap tighten it down As tight as possible. What happens?? I’ll post a pic of my “strapped load” tomorrow.

as for evasive maneuvers the only one I make is to hit the brakes. Because I pay attention to what’s going on around me.

Like i said u could do what u want. Ive hauled plenty of stuff like mulch and super sacks where strapping it does nothing. Ur never gonna get it tight and just rip the bag open or whatever.

What ifs are just what ifs until they happen. Do u think i planned to roll my truck my truck over. Ive been up and down that road 100 times atleast and never had a problem. Pay attention more than most. Its not the point. #### happens out of your control. All it takes is one time and ur done. U can do what u want. But its not legal or safe.

Don't take it the wrong way, he is just speaking his peace. #### happens and when it does, you are rarely ready for it.

Once I was going through Kansas city at night. I was all decked up and rolling along.
All the sudden I about ate the steering wheel. Thought, dang, That was a big ### pot hole. Kept driving. Then about 4 miles or so later I seen a ton of sparks going everywhere when a car hit the jersey barrier. Turns out, the car rear ended me at 100mph+ and got stuck. I drug him until he got loose and hit the barrier. Turns out he was drunk and stole that car from a party he was at. He didn't even have his lights on. Totally caught me off guard. #### happens when you least expect it. If you think you are doing right, no need to justify it....just keep on keeping on. However, there might come a day when you are proven wrong.
