Thursday night at work, I watched a CRST tanker driver talking away on his cell phone while backing a tanker into a parking slot get very stuck. CRST driver was not paying attention and put the tanker through a chain link fence and hung the back axle of the tanker off a 5 foot embankment. Enough weight was shifted to take the traction off the driver tires. It cost about $1500 to have him pulled out, plus the cost to replace the fence.

I felt bad for the guy, but he was not paying attention.

You felt bad for him? You have more sympathy for stupidity than I do!

In today's truck driver heavy market, this most likely cost him his job. It does serve him right, he did it to himself, but if he has a family they will pay for his stupidity.

He came to me asked if my yard truck could pull him out. There is no way a single axle yard truck was going to pull him out.

I agree put the phone down when backing, heck around here it's against the law to drive and talk on the phone. My co-workers have kind of a running joke that I am not allowed to talk on the c.b. when backing up!!

The last company that I worked for had a strict policy against using the cell phone while driving. We had a new guy come on board, who just couldn't give up his cell phone.

Not only while driving, but at the customer's dock, even in the dock office, while he was signing paperwork. Actually were two different customers who called and complained that this clown was not paying any attention to what he was doing, because he was on the cell phone.

After numerous warnings, he was no longer employed there. Now I know that I'm a bit anti social. But there has never been anyone that I would have cared to talk to on the cell phone for nine hours out of a ten hour shift.

I don't know if this guy was doing the "phone sex" thing or not, but if he was, it was costing him a fortune. In any case, it cost him a pretty good job. . .

It's been proven in many studies that it's the conversation that is distracting. I don't think blu-tooth would have helped, you have to be paying attention to what you are doing.

How hard is it call back in 5 minutes..............................
