Hello, Sleepless Nights
This crack baby is not understanding-
Are you saying that I can do a diagnostic check?
By snapshot, do you mean an actual picture?

Droy do you have a caterpillar Operation and Maintenance Manual for your MBN engine it should be green #sebu7610?
If so go to page 63 for self diagnostic and page 71 for a ecm snapshot. If you don't have the book I will explain what to do. -
I just finished reading your last post on page 2 and if you had the wastegate plugged off at one time or another I would bet you have been derated. You will have to go to someone that has the abillity to reset the ecm. that will give you about another 100hp or more. Also when you are there you might want to ask them how much it would cost to put a heavy haul 525/1850 -2300 Rpm program into the ecm. If it isn't on warranty anymore it shouldn't cost you more that $ 200. If it is still on warranty it might cost $1200. or more (not worth it in my opinion). It will still be a MBN fuel loving POS but one that goes up the hills alot faster.
droy Thanks this. -
Do not have that manual, but going to ask for one when I go back to Cat; went this morning, and forgot to take my oil sample, so I will be going back next day or so.
Just replaced that wastegate hose, as I said, it was so dry rotted, pieces of it were actually missing. Did not R&R my turbo boost pressure sensor, just in case the hose was the problem, ..........Naah, my fixes aren't that cheap! -
To do a self diagnostic check do the following.
1 Turn the cruise control switch to the off position.
2 hold down on the set/resume switch in either position until the yellow lamp starts to flash. let go of the switch
3 The yellow lamp will flash x amount of times pause and then flash x amount of times again. For example if you had a boost pressure sensor fault it would flash as follows 2 flashes short pause - five flashes giving you a code 25. If you have more than one code stored it will carry on with that sequence of flashes right after it finishes with the first code. sometimes it will flash the same code more than once that just means that it logged that code more than once.
You can store up 4 snapshots in your ecm, it will automatically get rid of the oldest one
A snapshot records all engine and vehicle parameters 9 seconds before it is triggered and 4 seconds after it was triggered.
To trigger a snapshot do the following with the set/resume switch toggle it between off to set and then to resume and back to off again all within 1 second. I think if I remember right the yellow light will flash to let you now it has taken the shot at this point.droy Thanks this. -
Sleepless nights,
Thanks a bunch for this!
Couple of quick questions
(1) When doing this check, is the engine supposed to be running? If not, I'm assuming the key should be on?
(2)The yellow light that is mentioned, is it the "check engine" light on the printed circuit panel overhead? -
1 Yes key on either running or not.
2 yes
If you get some codes let me know and I will tell you what they are. -
You may be logging events when the check engine light is on, not logging faults. Some events do not show up on flash codes. What program is your tech using to check for faults.
