It cracked a tube, they told me it happens, and since the people i bought it from dont want to order a bunch more they agreed to give me my money back.... Im going to get a custom bar and plate cooler made, just have to give DDS the measurements.

I dont think 1000hp at the ground is a real stretch. Diesels are pretty simple, get as much air in as you can and then dump in enough fuel to make the horsepower you need...ha ha... sounds so easy.
If cat can sell you a 1000hp C18 a modifed C15 should get there with only a minimum amount of fuss. I have seen a C10 make 1500hp in race trim and it was nothing that special just the right combination of parts.
Holding it all together without pushing out the head gasket will be the real trick. -
How much do you want for that C18 manifold.....Costs to much to buy anything out of the States at the moment...
Also in you opinion how much PSI can a stock head gasket handle..???? -
Drop a C16 in it Martin....COOL.....

Both the 1000hp (marine) and 950hp (industrial) C18s run twin turbo. the marine one is one piece water cooled but the industrial runs two separate cast iron mainfolds with 3 cylinders feeding each. I would have to pay the same as you as I would be ex USA also, and we are about to get a big price rise in January I hear
.
How much boost a stock head gasket can handle is a very loaded question.
1st thing to consider is liner protrusion, if its not at least 4 or 5 thousands of an inch you wouldn't want to push the limits at all.
2nd is timing, you can run stock boost and blow a head gasket if the timing is too far advanced, it would be ideal to retard timing with big injectors but I dont know of anyone who can modify timing in either direction other than tricking the sensors (eg fuel wire ####### timing slightly) but how much change this makes is hard to figure out.
3rd is fuel, too much fuel too soon before TDC will increase the cylinder pressure to a point were somthing has to give and the weak link is usually the head gasket.
Back to an answer to the question... I guess if a 625 Acert can handle 62psi with a lot higher compression than a C16, that shows what may possible.
Keep in mind I am a mechanic not an engineer, what I have to say is my opinion not necessarily proven fact

Ill see how far i can take it Shaun, im happy with the power as is, anything more is cherry on top for me. If i hit 1000 fine, if not ill settle for 900+, which im knocking on the door anyway.

My head gasket went with liner protrusion at .002 we had a .003 under spacer plate put in so now its at .005.
What I'm trying to work out is,I want to put the injectors and turbo back on as its very nice to drive and gets better MPG but CAT has told me it will never handle it.
Will changing fuel settings retard the timing.??Also with the ACERT does'nt it bleed off boost to keep every cylinder even letting the extra boost go back into the exhaust manifold.? Therefore not all of the 62psi is in the engine when it hits TDC.???
I think it was V8 Lenny on this site said he has a Cummins L10 making 1200hp and pushing about 48psi boost thats on a small engine how come I cant make 800hp with 38psi on a big engine???
Do you think a marine cam would help me run the bigger injectors???
Keep in mind that I'm a truck driver who thinks he knows something about engines.........Thats worse than someone that knows nothing...LOL
I bet you have seen a few of them
Thanks. -
I would be happy with that...At least yours stays together
All this talk of HP is making me keen to put the bits back in mine
In the new year I will try to talk to Great Lakes and see how much cc of fuel these injectors are pushing so I can compare them to the 59s if they are the same I might have to trade them in on some 58s. -
If they are indeed 830hp injectors then they are close, the 59s are 800hp injectors.
