I'm not a great believer in great lakes but if it was putting out the same amount of fuel as the 59s I'm sure it would smoke like yours but it only smokes between shifts then burns clean.

Mine will smoke a lil at full power, not as much before turbo spools but still a decent amount. Ill put the truck on the dyno again after cooler change, i think with the #### fixed it will do 900hp on this crap cam.
Im looking at a daycab truck with a 1LW 550 in it, its wrecked. Thinking of buying it and making it a toy, with some tricks up my sleeve...... Since i dont have enough power with this one.
-
I understand the job of the cam BUT what will happen when you put a 800 or 1000hp cam in????
Will it put more air into the cylinder to be commpressed????
Would'nt this be harder on the head gasket??? -
Higher lift, opening the valves longer, more air, more exhaust out. So yeah more power. I dont really see it any harder on the head gasket, if anything its relieving stress and pressure from the cylinder quicker.
-
More air......more pressure I would be thinking
It would be nice to get the exhaust out quicker though, before I put the injectors back in I think I will be putting in the 800hp cam. -
Yeah its a good idea. I talked to a local and he told me to stay away from the 1000hp cam on a C15, ill lose power over the 800hp C15 cam like DDS said.
Ill do the cam and cooler on this truck and keep it at that, i think ill buy that Pete with the 1LW in it and go nuts with it. -
That would be a COOL project.....

The guy at Western Star Trucks impressed me the way he works on engines I might offer him cash under the table to work on mine.
CAT wont have anything to do with me putting those parts back on now
-
I dont know how you can stand it stock, LOL. I drove my dads Pete, that truck did 574whp and its a doooooooooooooooog compared to mine. Even more sluggish down low with a C-16 turbo then my BW turbo.
Ill weld a tubular exhaust mani with a nice merge collector and some support braces, run a twin turbos stacked like a acert, see if i can compete up north with the canadian boys.

Its hard work when you know how well it can go,had a big day yesterday (650 miles) in 95*F heat and all our roads are bitumen tar and chip seal the heat that comes up off the road is intense with the heat of the sun,on the CAT ID the intake air temp was at 145*F combine that with the actuator on the wastegate going soft AGAIN 27psi was all a could get out of it and NO responce EGTs back up again and the fan on 70% of the time I HATE IT !!!!!!!!!
With the mods done everything stays cool, the problem I have now is the engine is under warrenty till november 09 I will go and get the turbo replaced again.
I will have to see how work is going next year before I spend more money on it anyway.
What to find out more on the cam first.
I will be over in the US June 2010 hope you have your new project up and running will be worth a look
-
If you will be up here Shaun you NEED to stop by man, i have a spare room and all.
