I was driving from Harligen to Laredo to Eagle Pass then to Del Rio. Verizon had barely any reception so my company could not reach me by phone dnd they said they completely lost track of me for a couple hours.
Is it just my truck and unit that is bad? Or is this common for qualcom to do? My company acts like this is unusual and wants me to get it changed out to peoplenet.

i was down at the border in new mexico. no verizon cell, and no gps. i've also had that problem in michigan by canada and washington by the ocean.

Though they tout satellite tracking, Qualcom actually communicates off of cell. You lose signal to QC in a lot of the same areas as you do cell.

Lol, I usually have good service on both my tmobile and Verizon phone up until between Del Rio and Sanderson when both lose it in some areas. If i stay on 90 to Van Horn, I get better service. 285 between Sanderson and Ft. Stockton has huge areas of no service.

Picked up a load of lava rock near the Oklahoma, Texas borders in New Mexico just South of Colorado and lost signal on both my Verizon phone and Qualcomm during most of my time there.

So... his qualcomm wasnt working because he has less than a year of driving... that is good to know... collectively I have over a year... but took a break and some time off the road... now I am coming up on a year...
I wonder if I need to alert qualcomm when I have a year or if it knows and will stop going down...
My qualcomm reception is basically good but there are times and places where it isnt... for example, I am on a dedicated and slip seat with another driver.. so I have to log on and off the qualcomm for every shift... where we park the trucks the reception is weak... but, once you get to the guard gate it is good... so, I do my pretrip and all then wait til I get to the guard gate to log in.. then, when I hook upto my load and am checki g the securement I am on duty pretrip... we have a guy that will sit in his truck tryi g to log onfor 15 to 20 minutes... it takes several trys.. I did that for a couple days till another driver told me about the reception and logging on at the guard shack...
I have only ever been on paper logs or qualcomm... so dont know about any of the other o es...x#1 Thanks this. -
Gpsman... I was just being a little tongue and cheek there... hope you didnt take any offense to it...
And, you are rignt, there are not a lot of O/Os with less than a hear experience... I know, I. Have over a year collectively, but still want to gain more knowledge and experience before considering to become an O/O... there just is a lot of responsibility and risk in being an O/O... so, I am comfortable gaini g experience and learning what I can as a company driver...
Another reason... I wouldnt want to get walked all over as a green O/O.... I am only now starting to be able to hold my own and stand up for myself when needed as a company driver... I am always trying to get my fleet manager to add money to a load, or because I was delayed at the yard of no fault of my own... I look back to when I first started and all the money I left on the table because I did t know I should and could ask for money to be added.. that is as a company driver.. so as an O/O I am sure I would leave money on the table, or worse, pull it out of my pocket...
I see k ow the lure of being an O/O.. and it is something I wojld lime to do... just need to learn more...
