Jury found Qualcomm infringed on Broadcom's patents.
A ruling imposed on Qualcomm states that they must immediately stop selling 3G WCDMA cellular chips.

Don't know how this will affect trucking companies and what they use to communicate with their drivers, but if it ends up being a money issue than I am sure it will cause some changes in the future.

Nope, it ONLY has to do with Cellular Technology.
In the US, ATT and Cingular use the GSM Technology
and ALL OTHER Cellular companies use the CDMA Technology (Chips made by Qualcom)

In other countries, GSM is the technology used.

Canada is still predominantly CDMA. GSM was supposed to take over years ago but it hasn't really caught on that well. It's predominant in Europe for the most part.

SAN DIEGO - December 01, 2008 - Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and data solutions, today announced that an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) of the U.S. International Trade Commission made an initial determination that Qualcomm's chip packages do not infringe two patents owned by Tessera and found that the patents are valid.

In other Qualcomm news and the reason I posted this in Electronic Connection:

Change your mind about how your laptop gets online. A notebook’s built-in mobile broadband chip is usually hardwired for one cell carrier, like AT&T or Sprint. Qualcomm’s chip is the first to encode network standards in software...

The Qualcomm is your friend. Be one with your Qualcomm. Depends on what your using it for I guess! :biggrin_25525:
