I do that all the time. Never been ran out, not even overnight stays. There are a few, very few walmarts that instruct there security to run us off, and put up obsticles to keep big trucks out. Its normally in the Richy places, or communities that have major shippers but no truckstops. Real smart. I shop at walmarts all the time.

Something has to be done! Some WM lots you can park in, some you cannot. That is not right. Truck drivers make up for most of WM income.

I have seen some truck drivers not care about where they are, dump there trash anywhere or empty piss bottles anywhere or just throw them out the window. This is not right. They should have respect. It is truck drivers like that, that make it bad for the good.

WM lots should have signs posted as to what and what you cannot do. If truck drivers were allowed to park there and because money is such an important concern, I am sure drivers would report drivers that are breaking the rules and seeing them penalized.

As the others have already said; Park behind the Walmart(thats where trucks are supposed to be anyway). It does work and I have never been bothered by police, security, or even receiving personnel when I have parked behind one of their super centers.

Many Walmarts have put up signs and even metal barriers barring vehicles above 10 feet high from entering the customer parking area. This is not only due to the trash some of the drivers leave but for the islands that get run over with huge ruts in the grass, curbs broken by the weight of the trailer, light poles knocked over from inattentive drivers, and even cars that got clipped by a driver 'accidentally'. They are trying to protect their property from being damaged and I for 1 completely understand and respect that.

ALL WalMarts should allow truck parking, in front, on the side or in back. ALL of them. You truck drivers are important and WalMart has to understand that. You can buy all your supplies there even groceries there. What if you were not allowed to at all? Then you would have to stop at truck stops and pay their exhorbitantly high prices.

One bad driver probably threw all his garbage in the lot and left his piss bottles behind as well. Wouldn't you report this absurd behavior if it meant you could park anywhere in Wm's lot?

    Well, that should be done!

As for me, i plan on calling WalMart corporate office and find out why some Wm's allow parking for truck drivers to spend their money in their store and why some don't. It is discrimination against all you truck drivers. I am then going to start a petition and go to all the truck stops I can and get signatures from as many truckers as possible.

I rode for 4 months on the truck with my boyfriend and I hate when he goes into a truck stop when he needs a few things. It is too expensive. Who knows maybe WM can do business with the truck stops. There has to be a way.

    Hi Crunch,
I am Denise, I am a truckers wife, soon future trucker. I am also a black belt in Karate, so working out is a must for me. When I am on the road with my hubby, I use the bunk space to work out. I do crunches, kicks, punches, in slow motion to feel each muscle group contracting, while breathing properly too, while my Hubby is driving. ( he thinks I am crazy, but after 10 years of this, he should be used to it..LOL) I also bring plenty of water, ( I do drink my morning Java, my weakness) I also pack plenty of snacks, like fruit, raw veggies, nuts, I am a junkie for Trident white chewing gum also. If we stop to eat, I get a grilled chicken salad, while my hubby get his fried food..Yuck. You never know when you may need to be in shape to defend yourself if need be. Some of the shady towns we have been in late at night..Wow, I need to be ready at all times for the unexpected. Good luck, stay healthy..

It is possible to workout and stay healthy on the road. It just takes more effort than working a regular job and going to the gym after. Truckers are supposed to take a ten hour break everyday. This gives you plenty of time to exercise. I used do my 45 min of cardio in the morning. If I was parked at a truckstop I could shower after. I would work out with dumbells later in the day. Either waiting to get loaded/unloaded or at the end of the day. Jump ropes and the stretchy band things work well. Another trick is to do push ups and sit ups in the shower rooms at the truck stops. Then you can shower right after of course. Some guys bring bikes with them. I found that roller blades are much easier to store. If you were on a dedicated run and always stopping at the same places it might make sense to have a gym membership. I used to have a YMCA membership and tried to use the Y's around the country. It just got too hard to find a place to park within walking/running/biking distance though. If I was on a dedicated run I would have it though.

As far the Walmarts, sometimes it is a city ordinance banning trucks from parking in the lots. I tried to park at the Walmart in Lake Geneva, WI. I parked way in the back. I went in, bought some stuff and came out. My buddy lived nearby and was going to pick me up. The manager came out and said sorry but can't park here. He said that Walmart trucks can't even park overnight there. Lake Geneva is kind fancy schmancy area. The Wrigleys from Chicago have their lake mansion there. Anyways, it was a city ordinance banning trucks from parking overnight anywhere in town.

Firstly, your not driving, big difference. Second point, I would sure like to see you doing this while hubby is driving. Bet it is a laugh. If your truck is anything like ours you would be bounced all over your truck. Guess you could lay on the bunk and do your kicks and punches, can't really see how much exercise that is though.

Again, goes back to you better be a solo because with a team there is no 10 hour break. Truck continues to move during that 10 hour break. You better be sleeping during that break because you will be going right back to driving when it is up. As for doing push-ups and sit ups in the shower rooms at the truck stops, firstly the for the most part the showers are not that big and secondly "YUCK" they are pretty nasty. I wouldn't lay down on the floor of one and I definately would not put my hands in the floor of one. If your going to do this I would suggest you keep a gallon of bleach with you at all times to disenfect first. Like I said "YUCK"! :biggrin_2559:

Not to mention, that alot of the 10 hour break is spent eating and waiting for the shower.

You sure sound like a mean woman beating on your husband like that when he is trying to drive!:biggrin_25523: I was a full contact fighter for about 10 years back in my prime. Now my only stretching is when I wake up and head to the drivers seat. My reflexes are a little slower now too!:biggrin_25523:
