I have a load going into Ridgewood, NY (queens). Wondering how many of you experienced drivers have been in this area with a 53', and how bad of an area is it?

Queens is the mostly residential (meaning houses) borough of the city. It's mostly flat. Lots of open space (relatively speaking). It's also the most prosperous after Manhattan with a couple of overhead trains.

    Hope this helps.

i go to queens pretty much ... the side streets are very small and narrow.. its very hard to get around but you can do it .. when on the BQE stay in the middle lane no matter who is yelling at you to move out the way.. ignor them and go about your way .. they will shut up soon enough.. best to call receiver and get directions and explain or remind them you are in a big truck ... REMEMBER STAY OFF ANY ROAD THAT SAYS PARKWAY !!!!!!!!!!!!

New York City has done one of the most useful things I have ever seen for us drivers - a great commercial section of their web site. Everything you possibly need to know about driving in one of the most difficult cities in the country is there. Many state and city DOT sites are total crap (especially for commercial truckers) but theirs is very good.

My favorite thing (something all large cities should do) is that they made a very clear truck route map to keep you out of trouble - something that is easy to get into in "the Boroughs." AND it is free. They will literally send you up to 25 copies of it by simply filling out the form. Plus the electronic version of it are also available for instant download on their page.

Check it out here ----> http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/motorist/trucks.shtml

And don't forget to scroll down and get the free NYC route map if you think you are going to ever go there in the future too.

    Hope that helps.
