Yes you can put all zeros, I have done this every time I've done a 34 re-start, IMO, it's less confusing, writing hours in your recap and still showing 70 hours available will just give DOT reason to look further into your logs, again this is just my opinion

Exactly. A reset makes the previous 7 days dissapear. They never happened as far as your 70 hours are concerned. If you no longer count those hours, why write them down any further.

Granted you still have to have them in your possession for the previous 8 days but that's just regulations, lol.

DOT doesn't need a reason to check your logs. You are required to have (in possession) today and the previous 7 days...if you hand the officer/inspector a log book with more than the minimum required, you have just given him/her your permission to peruse the others.

C'mon Pack, you know better than to say that!
{insert Time Warp music}...?Ahh yes they did happen! Those 70 hours just get "restarted" after the 34 hours has been completed.
I know...I know....to maintain a good habit, not reinforce a shortcut that could become a bad habit!

    See there...I knew you knew!

It really isn't covered in the regs on how to complete the recap portion, that is a company thing, and mainly just to remind the driver on how many hours he/she has to work with. The DOT guy isn't going to even notice the recap, especially if it is correct or not. He/she will be looking at each individual log and verifying the 11-14-70 and looking for that silly 30 minute break before the 8 hour limit!
