Honey and I are half way through our driver training. Honey shifting like he never left 20 years ago and I am getting better each class. Practicing hard to transition smoothly between gears.
(bear with me, there is a trucking question coming)....Honey and I have two grown sons who have really give us no problems what so ever. This oldest son just graduated from the shipbuilding school and has a great career, making great money, in this current position. Since we are working on getting our CDL we were talking about class and the trucking companies and trucking in general. (kinda cool to sit and have an adult conversation with your grown kid) He tells about his first real job when he was 19.
He had worked since he was 14, jobs for my husband who owned a small company and family friend who had a larger landscaping company. After these experiences he got his first "real" job working for an entertainment company that set up large tents, bouncers, casino nights etc. Because "M" had been working since he was 14 and had actually taken over my husband's small business at one point, the new employer hired him as a worker and soon placed him supervising other workers. The entertainment company had purchased box trucks and a freightliner with air brakes for the crew (all very young like my son) to haul the tents and casino rentals around. We live in Virginia and they would haul rentals all over the state and to surrounding states.
Come to find.... out the REST of the story.....(now that he is older he will give us more facts about the situation) the owner had the young guys (no CDLs) driving them all over surrounding states. They even had them connect a box truck to a 18ft trailer and haul it to Florida. "M" got stopped in Georgia? and ended up with a whole list of tickets ($2500-$3000)which the owner of the company paid and M ended up with a 7 page driving record which is now clear. "M" later found out that the trucks were registered in MD and were missing DOT permits and stickers. Of course he had to go through commercial driving driving school ( I always thought it was regular driving school) just to keep his license.
The things our adult children will reveal after a "safe" period of time has lapsed....
My question...Not from "M" just for my curiosity. Would "M" have a DAC report? He thinks he would never be able to get a CDL (if he wanted to) because of this incident 6 years ago? is that true?
Question about CDL-Raising sons.

The best way to find out is to have "M" apply for a copy of his own DAC report.
It's free and confidential.
A "DAC" is a report used by potential employers. I don't believe a state licensing agency is going to pull one.
If he's never had a CDL then the report should have nothing to reflect in that regard.
If "M" is in Virginia, a simple query of the state DMV website will reflect the "requirements" needed to get a CDL. I don't think you'll find a "DAC" report listed.honeyandlovie Thanks this. -
Nic99 is right. The Dac report is free. Dac is now called HireRight. The web address is: www.hireright.com
Nic99 and honeyandlovie Thank this. -
It's very unlikely the box truck company even used DAC, if DAC was even around then.
Yes, he can get a CDL and a trucking job.honeyandlovie Thanks this. -
To answer your question - no

Thanks so much for your help.
So even with these driving violations in his past (driving without a cdl, no stickers, etc), he would still be able to get a cdl? -
Think outside the "usual suspects" and apply with companies you may not hear about in all CDL schools.
He doesn't have to accept any job offer; it will give him an idea though if there are any obstacles.honeyandlovie Thanks this. -

If the CDL thing does not work out there is always the carnival. My daughter just got a job as a pixie dust spreader on the tilt-a-whirl and my son just started out barking for the yak woman. I am so proud.

If everything is off his driving record now it shouldn't be a problem. Also, when the driving record is printing for "Employment" purposes not as much shows and it only goes back 7 years. I'm also in Henrico. My company is always hiring lol.
