My company has just subscribed to Copilot, available on the Qualcom. First, I hate it. But I think that on a tablet I'd love it.
It has been my intention to purchase a tablet solely dedicated to the Copilot app for my truck.
But I haven't been very pleased because, number 1, the vehicle orientation on the map remains constant while the map moves to accommodate it. Therefore if you are traveling South the map is upside down. I know I should adapt and learn to accept this, but it's a pet peeve I find disturbing and I wish I could change it.
Secondly, and almost equally as frustrating is the Copilot overrides any other function I may be trying to perform and just butts in, interrupting whatever I may be doing. (team operation, while I'm in the passenger seat and not while I'm driving).
Lastly, I just don't find the interface to be very user friendly. This may be simply my own learning disabilities as I'm aging quicker than I like to admit.
Can any of you Copilot advocates weigh in? Given that on a tablet would I find it more adaptable? And I didn't even get into the screen size limitations regarding the qc! I guess a trial version would be nice and answer all of my questions!
Edited to add: the very first day I used this new navigation system I was given a citation for length violation in a town in Pennsylvania that cost me over $150.My stupidity. Should have called the shipper, well I did, but only after getting in so deep I'd already violated the statute.
Question about Copilot now on my qualcomm

I dont know if the copilot has a inversion setup. But you had probably best call Alk Technologies.

They can best answer your needs.Last edited by a moderator: May 1, 2014
Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
You can change that in the menu under map orientation.....and ur right, it's not friendly....
Good luckSkydivedavec Thanks this. -
We have copilot on our peoplenet system....and I ignore it. Reasons why...
#1. repeated overweight warning screamed at me when traveling down Interstate highways.
#2. repeatedly trying to route me through areas that ARE not compatible with rigs, and would have gotten me a ticket.....
#3. Routing that is ridiculously further than I need to go.... Example, Lewiston ID, to Tracy CA.....it tried to send me to saltlake city, and then to LA, before back up to Tracy CA..... was much simpler to follow my MAP, and TND720 for a route 1/2 the length....
So far I find copilot to be utterly useless...and unsafe.Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
There must be a big difference between the Windows version and the android one. I've not had any problems with it.
Dieselboss and Skydivedavec Thank this. -

But on a laptop / phone / tablet version, all of the things mentioned in this thread are in the settings.
Map View settings:
* 2D, 3D, Directions only, or map plus directions
* NORTH ALWAYS at the top, or your HEADING always at the top. One of the posts above is definitely set to "North Up"
* speed or no speed, nearest town, current road, heading
* Map and road line color schemes
* Lane assist view: on or off
Routing Preferences:
What route it takes is HIGHLY dependent on what you set in the truck settings. Any one of these can change the default route:
* Height? Weight? Length? Width?
* National Network checked or not?
* 53 foot checked or not?
* Freeways, Divided Highways, Primary Roads, Secondary Roads, and Local Streets: what setting do you have these on?
* Toll roads to "Use, Avoid, or Avoid if possible?"
* Routing to "Practical or Shortest?"
It will create the route based on what you have chosen on those 16 factors.
Then you can drag the route line after that to a different road if you still know some other shortcut that you like. (ver 9 on laptop, tablet, or phone)
So if those special Qualcomm or PeopleNet versions of the program allow you those settings mentioned above, then those would tweak the "heading downward" and "why did it go that way" things.SQ609 and Skydivedavec Thank this. -
This is fantastic information, dieselboss. And it sounds like the tablet and laptop versions have a good deal more functionality than the version on the qc.
I'd read too many raving reports of Copilot to accept that the version on this unit was the end all be all.
Thanks for sharing this valuable information. You always come through! -
Mind you this is only my opinion
