I was places oos in Canada for flat tire. No ticket but had to have tire repaired before I left. I did load check 50 miles before. It was 30 points, now it went down to 20. I think another year before it goes off my record.
TheRipper Thanks this. -
While it seems unfair to be penalized for something that happens just before you get to the scales, they have no way of knowing that you indeed checked it 5 miles before the scales and it was fine.
So if you, who actually did your PreTrip properly, can talk your way out of it, so can the guy who crawls out of the sleeper and drives away without checking anything (and trust me, they have, and that is why they write up whatever presents itself when they inspect you)
When I was starting on with my current carrier, I did a few days with a trainer for company indoctrination, and one time when I was driving, I got pulled into Cottonwood on i5 for a random full inspection (we have prepass), and they found a brake hose that was nearly worn through, but you could only see from underneath. I had not had the chance to crawl under it, so I had no way to know about it, but I got the ding... Lol
Talk about unfair! -
I was slow rolling over the Klamath Falls scale and heard a loud BOOM. Scale chick comes running out all excited, "you're out of service!" She did tell me if it had happened 100 yards prior or 100 yards after her scale and i took care of it out there she would not be able to do anyting about it OOS or otherwise.
