    Hey everyone I have a few questions about the DOT number.
    1. How long does it take to get one?
    2. Is it free are do you have to pay?
    3. Do you need a DOT number before you buy a truck or after?

    Yoh do not need a DOT number to buy a truck.

    It is free and I had mine in an email before I could open a beer.

    MC number is a different story

    What is the difference between a DOT# and a MC#.....thanks in advance!!

    All CMV's need a DOT number . MC is for Motor Carrier authority which is needed to haul for hire . Posting the MC number on the truck is no longer required . It is checked through the DOT number . If you lease to a carrier you use their MC number .
