I am interested in attending a CDL training program, but I am unsure if I would be eligible for a truck driving job due to my driving record. I don't want to waste my time or anybody else's time if it's a lost cause.

In 2005 I received a DUI. I went through all of the required classes, courts, etc. The only thing I had a difficult time doing was paying my fines, and due to that, my license was revoked in 2007, unknown to me. I was caught driving on the revoked license and spent 10 days in jail. But I paid the fines that I had incurred for that violation. Earlier this year, I paid off the remaining fines on my DUI case, and when I went to court to finalize it, my attorney discovered that the court had made some error, so they reinstated my license without me having to go through hearings with the secretary of state.

Other than that, I have no moving violations or traffic accidents on my record in the last 5-6 years. I believe driving on the revoked was a misdemeanor, but as far as felonies go, I have none.

I'm not sure if these factors play into it, but I see trucking companies asking; I have been with my current employer for 10 years, though it is a non-driving job, obviously.

Any feedback would be much appreciated, thank you.

get a copy of your dmv and see what it says.

i beleive schools say no dui's past 5 years or something to that effect. as long as your dmv says 2005. then you've actually got 7 years and should be ok.

you'll also want to apply for a criminal background check so they can give you a letter as to how long you have to wait before you have it expunged. which would be in your best interest to have done. as soon as the state says you can. so you won't have to worry about it in the future.

Lee1983, I feel that getting a CDL will be the easy part. I am more concerned being able to find a job. Have you been able to get hired on by a carrier despite the revocation?

    Thank you for your reply!
