Hello ya'll, I am thinking about goin to maverick. I have read good things about both flatbed and TCD. With Maverick's flatbed division, is most of the tarping outside, or is it in some sort of inside dock?

Depends on the weather, the layout of the shipper and few other conditions.

O ok kewl thanks. I just want a idea of what flatbedding will be like lol. I am like 90% sure I will go TCD, but I will consider flatbedding.

Also depends on how busy a shipper is. Many don't care if you tarp indoors, as long as they don't have another truck to load in the door you are in. Once you get the hang of tarping, there are lots of times you'll prefer to tarp outside if you can. Cooler and more room. Flat bedding isn't bad, once you get used to it. I have nearly 20 yrs flatbedding. Sure beats van or reefer IMHO.

With flatbedding there's a whole lot more to learn but the nice part is that you are more in control off what happens.:biggrin_255:

some places will even let you tarp out in the freezing rain/ hail storm with 35 mph winds. Its fantastic! OOO-RAH! :biggrin_2559:

If your old or out of shape it is not easy, flatbed is for drivers who want exercise. ..

There will be limited times to tarp inside even sheet rock I tarped outside between the rain, wind ans snow it was very interesting but sometimes the customer will help you either lift the tarp up by hand or forklift. If tarping ain't your thing don't go boyd brothers they tarp like 80% percent of the loads and those are lumber tarps very heavy. The key to tarping is to start with the proper tools and to reward yourself 'after the tarp' for example have on hand corner protectors such as throw away diapers they stick on anything, a ladder, bungy cords of course and course rope for the loads that transfer to other drivers just to name a few things. And rewarding yourself I use to get a cheap motel with the tarping fee that I use to get so I could relax afterward that way I wouldn't feel as though tarping was such a chore and I would look forward to tarping. And even a few times I would arrive to the receiver early and roll out the tarp and as soon as they arrived I would start to roll it up, they would always fall for that. Because honestly some tarped loads where tarped for just the shear joy of it such as shingles, tree stumps and celluar towers all out side material it made no sense.
