What's the deal? I've seen large custom sleeper trucks with several people in them. I've also seen them with one person. How does the system work?
Its leading me to this general question to. Are some of the people just non driver personel in the truck? If so, are they subject to drug testing? I pulled into the flying j and there were a group sitting outside smoking a nice one ( the aroma got my attention).
Question about movers.

Yeah, a lot of movers coming into town to load/unload need help and stop by the local agent and grab 1,2, or more guys to lump the furniture.

I drove for an O/O who was with Mayflower and we used to hired local day labors and pay them a hourly rate, but this was only for real large jobs. Most of the time it was just me and the owner but if we needed extra help Mayflower would contact local temp services to get day labors, don't know if they still do this, this was going back in the early 2000's.

I worked for a mayflower agent and if you had to hire labor you hired them from mayflower or united. they got a 4 hr mini so weather you had them for an hour or all 4 they got paid an hourly wage. and the big sleeper trucks u speak of i had and most of us who did have the big sleeper trucks did trade shows. my agent paid us to sit at the show for the duration. it paid xtremly well..then they re-did the contracts and the agent i was with had to go to a full service agency and that did that..

It can go one of two ways. I sometimes take my helper/loader with me. Non-driver, but the driver needs to know who is with him because any drugs or alcohol in the truck becomes his responsibility. We just had two drivers get busted for that.
If I don't take anyone with me then I set up labor in the area I am going to. You accumulate phone numbers of the ones you like working with. Some of the large sleeper guys are ones that stay out forever.
It takes more than just the driver to get the job done. Depends on the labor and if it is going into storage or residence.
