I have a question about the situation I am in. I went to a local community college trucking school and received my cdl in 2002. After I graduated I couldn't get hired on because of my unstable work history, my dui in 1995 and my driving with a suspended license in 1997. After a couple of months searching but not finding a trucking job, I got a job as a cab driver as well as a dispatcher for the cab company. I did that until 2004. At that time I was approved for disability because of my morbid obesity and complications due to it. I've started to get the weight off and in time want to get off the disability. I'm wondering if I'm able to eventually pass a dot physical drop the weight would I have any chance of getting on with a trucking company, since my dui was over 10 years ago, as well as my driving with a suspended license? Thank you very much for your thoughts.

These times are tough and the companies have alot of drivers to pick from so you'll have a hard time right off the start. It's not impossible and your weight shouldn't keep you from getting a med. card if you get it down. I don't know what your disability is so I can not say if you'll pass the exam or not. If it goes away with the weight then I would think you wouldn't have any problems there.

The problem is why should a company give you a job driving? That's what you need to look at when the market is flooded with drivers. Use your skill as a cab driver if you have no accidents or tickets. You have to show the company they'd benefit from you. Just keep that in mind and look beyond the computer for work. If you apply in person you'll have the chance to explain why you'd be a good driver. You never know unless you try.

Thanks for your response. It's been a long journey. I sure hope I'm able to find one.
