Hello All,
Thanks for letting me in to this great community Ive read great articles by this website.
First off I want to say I have been in the logistics industry about 6 years doing Air Cargo, Ocean , Import , Export and basic trucking always hired third parties for thew trucking though. So i dont have the best clear picture about this industry.
I got layed of of work about a week ago and was thinking of buying 1 or 2 tracktors and leasing myself to a carrier. NOTE: I will not be the driver. I plan on concentrating on developing a future carrier/ broker business and expanding. I have a Driver well known use to drive for a carrier I knew before.
What I want to have an Idea here is : What will be an average of my Cent per mile net profit as an Owner ( not operator) I know i can pay these drivers 0.36-0.42 cents per mile. That range is fine with them . PLease note i dont want to be rich or live of of 1 truck or 2 truck , I just want basic idea of how much $$$ i cant count on from each truck doing 10k-15k miles per month . I here some carriers around here paying 1.70 p mile for power only some other 1.45 1.40. Can anyone give me a reality here?
Thank you guys and please forgive me if I am a little ignorant as I dont have much experience in the trucking biz. I just want a rough around the ball park figure of my take home pay as an owner. of 2 trucks.. Not operating either. Lets say each truck doing 10k - 15 k guaranteed miles on the month.
I hope all the experienced fleet owners and operaters can help me with this.

I will pay for both tractors cash. I plan to go Power only.
-
my advice is keep the cash and look for something else. this probably wouldn't end well.
Spartacus20, windsmith and jbatmick Thank this. -
Thank you , but ill wait for a more reasonable comment or response.

What are you planning on buying for trucks?
Any benefits for your drivers? To attract good drivers you will need benefits. (insurance, paid vacations, retirement, etc.)Spartacus20 Thanks this. -
Hello Oscar
and thanks for your reply, I plan at the beginning to use someone elses authority this person pays 1.70 per mile(Power Only). @ 3000 miles min per week. . I plan to pay my drivers at start 0.39 cents per mile , These guys are people I know. for now lets leave aside the benefits and vacation. I will pay the carrier 700 per truck to get with their truck insurance. The trucks will be paid cash. 2 - 2007 freightliner columbia. and no trailer power only. lets say i already paid tags and all start up fees. will i profit from this scenario .... if soo whats your estimate net income i can count on per truck on a month basis. Saying both drivers drive 10k miles @ 1.70 .. and that my truck does 6 mpg avergae overall.
I understand its extremely hard to predict failures and mechanical things going wrong. but just a ball park figure here...Thanks bud I appreciate all the info I can get. -
It's all simple math really, I'll help you but understand that if you can't figure this out yourself you have a long road ahead of you.
Is this $1.70 per mile loaded only, or loaded and empty? Need to know this to get a semi-accurate profit/loss.Spartacus20 Thanks this. -
This rate is for all miles loaded and empty .

They are so utterly unreliable they are ruining the company (they had to file CH 11 reorganization recently)
Small companies rely on dependable rigs to run...make money...and pay the bills
So i would say if you are counting on a return from your investment be very careful. We've had trucks literally not connect to their first load before the went into power 'DeRate' mode and spent the next week at the KW shop attempting to be made right...only to do the same thing over again...endless breakdowns.
From what i have experienced with unreliable equipment over the past 2 years I have held off getting my own truck.
If i were to be making payments on a truck of my own i would have been out of business with a few months.
Pretty scary what Ive seen out here with new product.
Good luckSpartacus20 Thanks this. -
