not that I am considering it... oh no of course not... never... but I have heard horror stories about them keeping your last paycheck, that is my main concern. no lawyer here but that sounds somewhat illegal. 7 years ago an employer tried to keep $27 they owed me after I quit, I went to the PA dept of labor and got it back. not sure how it works with them being based in IA, but if they kept $27, or $727, I'm prepared to get it back. not sure what all I signed in orientation but I don't think I signed anything saying they can keep my money.
as far as DAC, last I talked to Josh in safety, he said if I give 2 weeks notice they won't put anything on my DAC, which sounds fair. I imagine they get a lot of guys who don't last very long, say "F this" and turn the truck in. I have a couple incidents and an accident, none of which were reported to DOT, the only record that exists is in TMC's filing cabinets. if or when it happens I plan on turning in a clean truck with all my load securement, company issued hardhat, OD gear, etc.
my opinion of TMC is that FOR THE MOST PART they have been fair to me, but with some of the things they have done to other drivers, nothing surprises me anymore. the money isn't bad but honestly I am sick of the micromanagement, politics, and now impending financial trouble and cutbacks...

Here is what you do. Call your FM, tell him you have a family emergency and you need to turn the truck in. Turn it in, take a week off, call him the next week and tell him that you are going to need an extended stay at home, and you think it best to just quit the company for a while, rather than be a burden.
The first time i quit that's what i did, although at the time everything i said was true.. it worked. I was rehired 2 months later without problem, they never kept my last paycheck because they diddn't know that it was my last paycheck, and i never had any issues being rehired either.
Also, don't worry about your DAC. They never put anything on mine, and i was terminated. Also there is a friend of mine (terrylamar) on here who worked there, TMC never reported it on his DAC either. He had to jump through hoops for employment verification because nothing was on there when he moved over to ATS. But, i guess better nothing at all then a bunch of lies like some companies do.
Also I had a few incidents as well, none of which were reported to the DOT, and from what the recruiter over at BTI says, none of it is on my DAC. Also, it's much easier to call a recruiter friend, and have them check than to jump through the hoops of trying to get a copy of it yourself. I would really love to lobby congress in an attempt to make copies of our DAC's more accessible, i think that we should be allowed to obtain it after leaving any employer, and it should be available electronically like a credit report is. There is no need to jump through the hoops that they want you to jump through to get it, it's stupid.Ignatius Thanks this. -
I see what you are saying, but I'd rather just be honest and say "this company sucks, I am interesting in working for a company I can take seriously." my FM is a good guy, has always been decent with me, sadly he's just a pawn in the TMC machine. either way not gonna start jerking him around now. -
I was put on a home every night dedicated account, the same one Rawlco was on, except here in Michigan. We had a cold morning where it got down to about 20 below, and my car wouldn't start... This was at 0700. I called my dispatcher at the time and told him what was going on, because i always kept in contact with my FM to let them know what was happening, etc. Even though i still had 9 hours to make my delivery I called him to let him know anyway.
2 hours later it warmed up and started running, so i called him about half way to the yard to tell him i was on my way and still had plenty of time to make the delivery 4-5 hours early.. He had already given the load to another driver.
During all this our old operations manager (dwayne) was being replaced by some lady named Denise, why I don't know.. This was around the time of driver cutbacks and layoffs / firings in the office... Well, apparently this chick wanted to stick her chest out and make an example out of someone...The boss called me later that night, all upset, telling me i needed to come in for a conference call, and he said they were probably going to put me back over the road.. He told me that she called him wanting to know why he gave the load to another driver, so he told her i was having car trouble... She told him to put it in the computer and told him word for word what to type which is "Having problems making delivieres on time", he told her i wasn't "having problems" it was just this instance at that point according to him she said "put it in there, or ill find someone who will" Over the phone They terminated me for being late, without actually being late. I was late one other time before that, due to weather issues / accidents, etc. Ofcourse, coming off the road i was always told you'd better be safe rather than sorry, It was a bad winter around here that year.
Now, being with TMC for as long as I was, i've never heard of anyone being fired for something so trivial, when i started asking around and called my old road FM i got the real scoop about the firings, and the fact that right at that time they had completely stopped hiring even road drivers out of my state becuase they couldn't get anyone home. They also never replaced me with anyone in my truck, until a few months ago (i left in january) ... according to a friend the home depot contract was up, that guy made it two months there and was put back on the road.. Then there was another guy who screwed up almost everything you could imagine, never got fired.. just put back on the road. I had lots of money coming my way from trainer bonuses and other various stuff, plus i busted them for discontinuing payment on my school loan for over a year out of nowhere, without letting me know... I found out from the collection agency that it hadn't been paid on. Then suddenly i'm terminated when they have to start reimbursing me again. Odd, huh?
Strnspeed will say i was a crappy worker, and did a bunch of stuff wrong. Anybody that -really- knows me will tell you that it was corporate BS... Which i agree. But, that's life... I'm not mad at them, especially now with the way things are, i would have left anyway. They can have their 23% drivers that snap 4 million dollar machines in half using chains when they are told not to.
As far as jerking him around, you really aren't. The point is that they won't have the ability to take your last check if they don't know that it's going to be your last check...Don't think for a second that they wouldn't jerk you around if your roles were reversed. My road FM is a great guy as well, never had a problem with him.. still talk to him alot, in fact, he's the only reason i stayed there as long as i did to be perfectly honest.. that kid worked his arse off to keep me happy, and i did the same for him. Just keep in mind that what happens with your last check has nothing to do with your FM, how much you like him, or vise versa.. It has to do with all the other little nameless peons in the office that you will never see, or hear from. Which is why big companies suck.. So don't think of it as jerking him around, think of it as preventing them from jerking you.Ignatius Thanks this. -
They kept $200 worth of tolls from my last check, they said I didn't fill in the appropriate authorization number when I filled out my expense sheets. I called my FM and he told me if I sent him the receipts he would take care of it. I did, he didn't. I haven't checked my DAC yet but I had my team leader send me an e-mail verifying that I gave sufficient notice.

hasnt said ANYTHING about his ACCIDENTS. read back on his posts youll see. and again i have apologized to cpl even if he is to oblivious to see. it is just eckz that im attacking. FIRED for no apperant reason???? i still have friends way north of detroit that drive for TMC. one of my best friends is from the U P. and he gets home. so maybe you (eckz) just screwed up.
-
Yep, the non preventable not at fault accidents.. lol, sorry I have family at home and I'm not jerking my wheel to avoid idiots. Besides, if i did and dropped the load, or ended up in a ditch guess what TMC would say? "Why didn't you just hit the car?"
ahahaha. There were lots of guys fired from TMC in January for no apparent reason, apparently you don't get out much. Also, you'd think that if accidents were the reason i was fired they would've just said that instead of making crap up... Better yet, it might even be on my DAC... But it's not! Weird, huh!?
Also never said YOU were a 23% driver, DID I? No. What i implied was that TMC would rather have them.. why is exactly why they lost Boeing. "A rookie rolled over and TMC had to buy jet engines" Wow, yes, that's exactly what i was talking about.. incidents like that, whadaya know? By the way, everyone on here knows about my horrible "Accidents", again, you aren't breaking news to anyone... Besides, dude, i already said several times i would've left by now anyway... As far as I'm concerned they did me a favor, but that doesn't mean I am not allowed to have an opinion on the matter.
Still can't figure out why i brought your name up?
Carter asked a question, and I answered him, of course i already knew you'd coming strolling in here with something ignorant to say.. That's why.Last edited: Sep 13, 2009

all I am concerned with is how to professionally end my tenure at TMC should the need arise and keep my last check. TMC thought they were above HOS laws for a while, it wouldn't surprise me if they thought they were above labor laws too. -
