Lets just say when the truck was packed you can see there very good at puzzles and filled it for all its worth. To be safe they went around the weight stations in NE Via side roads into SD.

Trucks being used for personal use and not in a manner of commerce do not have to stop at weigh scales you only need to stop if you are transporting someones goods for profit

I know this issue is resolved for the original poster, But its a very good question. I have a CDL, and I recently bought me a FL70 for my own personal use. However progressive said because of the weight they could only insure me on a commercial policy only. Well when I showed the insurance papers to the lady at the tag office she said we can either give you a commercial or a farm tag. I had to go to Bakersfield California to get the truck so I didn't want a farm tag ya know. Its a straight truck with a 25 foot flatbed and a huge ### compressor on back. After a lot of thinking I decided to go to home depot and buy some stick on letters about 2 inches tall and spell out not for hire on both doors, even though its a commercial plate. I left Bakersfield and took I40 all the way and blew by every weigh station along the way to Oklahoma. The one leaving California had me sweating. And the one in New Mexico. Most of them were open too. But I noticed New Mexico is the most picky. The sign read "OPEN" All Trucks in right lane. All trucks, Buses, and vehicles using tow bars must enter. I mean my Butt was puckered up when I blew by that thing, BUT nobody chased me. I didn't relax until I crossed in to Oklahoma. I still don't know If I was legal or not. I know if I wasn't 26,000 pounds I was very close to it, Or over. Maybe I was legal, Or I just got lucky. If anybody reads this and knows the answer please comment. I have 7 more of these trucks to move.

Well a lot has to do with using these vehicles for personal use and not for hire for commercial purposes (not to make money) but I would overview the federal motor carrier regulations but I believe your fine with moving these and not stoping at scales but just be fore warned there is always that trooper that is unclear on the laws so it may be good to find private carrier regulations and rules and print it out just in case ya never know

    willardskillard Thanks this.
