When you are done and ready to go home do you get to take truck home or do you have to park it at terminal and find your way home? I am new to trucking and I really am confused about all of this. I live in Branford, CT.

I don't even have a pre-hire yet with Schneider but I really want to get in with them. I like their home time deals, I like all the different fleets they have, and I like the fact that you train 8-10 days (I hope I am right on that) and not 6-8 weeks as some starter companies. I'm just confused on how it works as far as dropping off your truck or picking it up. I live in CT and it seems like the nearest terminal is somewhere in New Jersey. I know you can't have your cake and eat it but I want to be very picky before I really go on with anybody because I want to be happy where I am at. Watkins and Shepard told me that I could attend orientation but I have to commute to Sayreville, NJ to pick up truck. NYC is right in between that and the last thing I want to be doing is sitting in traffic after I am tired from driving and I want to just go home. I will do this though if this is just part of trucking.

Not sure but I think I read somewhere here that if you live more than 100 miles away from a terminal then you can take the truck home. Just curious, how far are you from Watkins/ Sheppard terminal? I thought they only hire within 120 miles from one of their terminals.

I am 119 miles from Sayreville, NJ. However that's not going to be a fun 120 miles. NYC is right in between.

I'm pretty sure the NJ terminal is bulk only and in that division you can't take truck home. The Van division lets you take truck home or drop yard . Plus I think right now they only offer the 6/3 to students and that is slip seating.

what's the difference between an operations center and terminal? I see there is an operations center in New Milford, CT. "Maintenance" is listed as one of the features to this. So, me being a recent grad I would only be able to do the 6/3 split seating which of course you have to drop truck off at a designated location? Or do they offer Van national? I am just confused with all the different fleets. 6/3 is only regional and when you say Van what are you referring to? Any van job regional or national?

The best answers come from Green Bay directly.

Most every area offers something a little different. What I work here in SoCal (where it was 85* today) is not what you will be offered.

Typically the Regional Van drivers can take the truck home. However there are exceptions out there that were created based on the situation.

I run a 6/1 and I have an assigned truck. I live in it those six days since I live far from the OC. Also, I may run out of town and not get back to the OC until the next day. They stack loads on me until I run out of hours and wherever that is becomes my Layover for the next 10.

The Bulk Division is gaining momentum, it may be good to try to jump on that right now and see where that takes you.

Now as a Teaser I will tell you that SNI just turned back on their 401k Matching ....

There is a OC in New Milford, CT. I know that it is on the web site, but not in my information and pumpkin book. I was in New Milford a couple of days ago. Did not even know. I know that we have a large customer there, Kimberly Clarke

I thought they closed the New Milford OC a few years ago. It was an the highway in front of the KC facility. The shop and fuel island were on one lot and the offices and "lounge" were next door. IIRC it was closed about the same time as Evergreen, Woodhaven, and Seville. Not sure if it is available as a droplot.
