Question about something I saw today...

Well the smart ones don't know the answer because they are too smart to do it and find out .

 

Well, if it's just a restricted route (they don't want you out there) then I'd imagine it's just a ticket. However, if it's restricted because of a low bridge, or if you're overlength and can't make the turns, then it's gonna be a big ticket, and possibly a tow bill to get you turned around and outta there.
Personally, if there are signs/warnings in the atlas, then I just assume that I shouldn't be there, and I really don't care why.

 

There is a bridge in Pawtucket R.I. on Rt 95 that is clearly marked, no trucks over 18,000pounds/2axles.The fine is $3000.and trucks are ticketed every day.

 

If the sign says no trucks you can bet residents will be on the phone reporting any truck they see . Some LEO's will turn the truck around and send it back the way it came .
There was a major issue over this in KY when a small town cop discovered KY 431 restricted 102" trailers . Trucks that had been taking 431 to Logan Aluminum were stopped and forced to take another route that was over 50 miles longer . The governor got the restriction removed .

 

Most of the low bridges are listed in just about any trucking atlas. Many times there are bridges that have to be replaced and there will be an alternate route for trucks because the existing bridge can't take the weight of 80,000 lbs trucks going over it, so you just have to keep your eyes open and read the signs.

But this is one area that many truckers need to improve on is route planning! Many just follow the directions on from dispatch and never check it out ahead of time. So they go down the road listening to their favorite Woody Guthrie 8 track at 150 decibels and don't pay attention.

Don't pay attention?....Do pay the fine.

 

And states are getting better at updating their web site also with pertenaite information on restricted routes such as a road that was good today but they did road work and added 4" of asphalt and made the underpass to low for a truck! Been there done that!

Thats why having a working broadband in the truck is a good tax deduction! You aren't always at a truck stop with WIFI! The past 4 yers Broadband has been a life saver for me! Don't leave home without it!

As for what happens to a driver in lala land and not reding signs or planning a route. MONEY and POINTS!, That music, cell or whatever isn't worth not being aware of whats going on in the world around you!

 

Always pay attention to the signs, they are there for a reason. I had a delivery in Spruce Pines NC. (been driving in NC for less than 1 yr at time) To get to town it is up up up a switchback narrow road. Ok, this one day there was one of the electronic road signs saying that the in bound (up lane lol) would be closed by 8am. No problem since it was 7 at the time and actually, I would be "down" b4 then anyways. Well...it took longer than expected and I didnt leave till about 8, but no problem, I could still go down. Well...lol...low and behold, both lanes were closed, and notification was at the closure, so what now???? I stayed on the main road to go down the other way. About 5 truck lengths along there was a wee bitty sign saying "not recommended for large trucks ahead" Ok, probably not the best shape road, so I figure just take it easy....WRONG LOL....it was all tight curves, blind cuts, up and down and by the time I did make it down to the bottom, I was ready to change my draws (NYC driving was cake in comparison)...so yes, follow the posted signs, they ARE there for a reason.
