HI,
I am new to this forum. I posted this question on another forum but have gotten no response so I thought I would try here. I've been a truckers wife for 14 years and finally hubby is letting me get my CDL. I'm tired of just riding and apparently he's tired of me pestering him.
Anyway he's telling me that the state troopers that give the CDL road test are apt to be harder on me because I'm a girl. I was just wondering what any of you might think. As far as I see it either I can do what is expected of me on the test or I can't. I do not expect special consideration just because I'm a girl. But if I can do as well as the guys that pass then I should pass too. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum, you should do alright, It took one of my classmates 3 tries before he passed.
-
If you know your stuff you will do just fine. I don't think that you will have a harder test or be given a hard time. I got my license almost 10 years ago, and I failed my ally dock the first time, but redid the test the next day and passed. I had one too many pullups. You figure.

When I took mine over 10 yrs ago I was one of two out of my class (only female in a class of 8 ) that passed that day. I don't think the examiner was any tougher on me because I am female. Of course he did ask me if I wanted to let someone else go first because I had such a case of nerves that when I started the truck to do the maneuverability test I killed the truck 3 times because my leg was shaking so bad. But once I got rolling I was fine.

Thanks everyone and Gypsyhooker I know what you mean about your leg shaking. My husband was loading the truck one day with bulk bark mulch and he had me move the truck ahead while he loaded. We were in a big mud puddle, it came half way up the wheels and it was pouring out. I was so afraid of tearing out the drive train I had to hold my leg down on the clutch because it was shaking so much. I hope I do better when I test.
Well I feel a little better my husband was making me scared. -
I think if you approach the job as a truck driver and not a female truck driver you'll do just fine. You'll have to know your stuff like anyone should but it sounds like you would not use your female persuasion to get an advantage.

Thanks gashauler,
I agree with you. My husband is 63 and I'm 36 so he likes to say he raised me and if there is one thing he raised me to do it was to pull my own weight. He's got 40+ years driving and over 4 million miles. I rode with him for 8 years and I always had to work, I was never allowed to sit and look pretty in the passengers seat. His rule was that nobody rides for free. I certainly know better than to use the "gender card" That doesn't usually go over well. Besides I want to earn my CDL and respect I certainly don't want it handed to me because I'm a girl.
I'm not sure why he thought I would have a hard time at the test. Most of the troopers I've met don't care if your a male or female as long as you can do the job. I was just curious what others thought. -
I think you will do just fine. We all, male or female or whatever, get nervous when we are tested. Just take a deep breath, and do your job.All will be well.

there was a girl in the class before me that passed on first try when 3 guys blew it big time "stalled truck " all 3!I beat her score but only by 1 point and I drove a ruck before! so go in do the job you know to do and then laugh at hubby when you outdo him. make sure you ask his test score before you take yours.
