Hi im leaving for trucking school in 2 days and have some questions about the dot physical.
Not worried about the drug or alcohol tests as ive never drank or done any drugs..
But heres what concerns me. Im 36...weigh around 350...but im not lazy or unable to move..im very active actually..have a black belt in kenpo...but will my weight cause any issues on the test?
Next issue. Im type 2 diabetic. I dont use insulin shots..but i used to take meds orally. Currently i dont take anything cause i got my diet under control. But i am worried cause even thou i feel good..and dont need the meds my diabetes sometimes shows high on meters or tests....the sugar level that is.
I read the exam and it says oral med diabetics are allowed...but not always..should i lie and say i dont have diebetes...or be honest and risk not being able to pass the test??
Thanks for all your help on this

I can't speak for the diabetes portion of your post, but as to your size I can say this; there are guys a lot bigger than u driving trucks all over America...so long as your active and mobile I wouldn't worry about it...of course I'm no doctor.

350 and have diebetas? Unless your a 6ft 8 body builder
I would suggest you take seriouse action before you go
OTR. There are good medications and treatments available
to help you lose the weight. Because once you go OTR
its only going to get worse otherwise. Don't really know
what most companies think of Diebetics. I knew a guy
who was fired for not disclosing anti seizure meds.
Others can't get hired because of past back problems.
If you can beat the problem and get healthy, I would not
tell them, but not telling you to lie. Main thing is, get yourself
right before you get into a truck. I knew a guy about 350
that slipped off a loading dock and shatterd his leg. That
much weight is trouble with a new truck driver IMO
the old ones tend to know how to deal with it. -
The only thing the regs say about diabetes is under 391.41:
Has no established medical history or clinical diagnosis of diabetes mellitus currently requiring insulin for control.
As far as weight.
There are no restrictions on weight, but as stated by others, drivers tend to gain weight on the road. Weight gain is an issue for alot of drivers due to the way of life and diet along with exercise.
