I would love to respond, but this isn't the place for anyone to jump up on the soap box.

OK...let me reply now so that all of you won't think of me as a really horrible mother. My oldest daughter is 20, married, expecting her first baby in september and has a home just 50 feet from my front door...so she basicly still lives with me as she is right here all the time. Because of the pregnancy she is not currently working, and doesnt plan on going back when the baby is born. My youngest is 17 and does live in the house with me and dependant on my paying the bills, but does work a parttime job to save for college. Both of my daughters are very mature beyond thier ages. Also my mother and my sister and her family live 3 miles from me. Being on the road for weeks or a month at a time is not a problem for me, but being able to make enough money to pay said bills is a problem i am concerned about. My sisters husband is a truck driver and I have talked with him about everything extensively. In his opinion, if would be difficult for the first year, but very well worth the career change after that. According to him, the larger companies are not having all that much difficulty right now, but the o/o are the ones hurting.

Hmmm... I thought it was opposite? Perhaps I'm wrong, so any O/O's correct me if I am, but arent O/O's doing much better than Co drivers these days?

One question for ya greeneyed_girl, and you dont have to answer because it's really none of my business, but who would be in the house with your 17 year old while you are gone?

I am building my oldest daughter a one bedroom, bathroom apartment that is corner to corner with my own house. She has a small kitchen and livingroom also, but they use thier apartment just for sleeping at night, as an add-on bedroom. From the time they wake up in the morning till they go to bed at night they are "living" in my house. She and her husband would be here with my youngest at all times. We live 17 miles from town deep in the woods. Very safe place to be, no crime. My oldest daughter graduated from high school at the age of 16 and is very mature. Neither of my daughters or my son-in-law party, drink, do any drugs. My youngest is working part time to save for college, that is her goal. I guess you would say they are not normal teenagers for todays society, thier form of entertainment is x-box and movies on dvd. They all three love being at home.

Hi Greeneyed girl, I have my CDL and no experience. I am waiting for things to get better. Waiting is hard because I think I am really going to like being a truck driver, but it is also a good time to research companies (and read all these posts, lol). Good luck with whatever you decide.
