Just talked to the roehl recruiter who told me their trying to reach out to my last carrier to confirm why I was let go. Ive heard somewhere that former employers can basicly only say yep he worked here and if they would take you back. Is that true?

Your past employer can say anything affecting your employability as long as it is true. Some employers limit what they say to avoid telling a lie and thus being sued.

I'm not sure if that's the way it works in trucking but usually, yes. However, it's very rarely followed by the two managers on the phone. Plan on them giving up the goods.

Ryan is 100% right;the employer can say anything they want. Let me add, they can say anything weather it is true or not, and some former employers will do just that. What are the chances that you as a prospective employee will be privy to what two employers say over the phone? Bad information will be exchanged, and it will be a cold day in hell before that information flows back to you. This is trucking, and their will be dozens of qualified others applying for that same job, and the employer does not have to provide the reason why someone was chosen over you.
While it is true if you found out about misinformation be distributed you could take your former employer to court, your prospective employer will not spill the dirt, and even if he did, the burden of proof is upon you if it ever went to court.Ryan423, AtticusRoad and Boattlebot Thank this. -
Just be aware even IF you left on "good terms" from a certain employer, they may still make you look bad on paper. For instance, when I left my first ever driving job after 3 months due to zero driving at the time, and lack of work, I walked into my boss's office and sat down, looked him in the eye and explained to him that I had responsibilities and I was offered a more "steady" driving job, and that they wanted me to start in a couple of days. We had what I thought was a nice 15-20 minute discussion, I offered to stay a little longer if he needed, he said it's no problem there was no driving anyway, and he looked me dead in the eye, shook my hand and said "Dave, at the end of the day it's all business and I'd do the same thing." Long story short, a couple of weeks ago, I was going through the hiring process with System Transport, and the sorry SOB put on the fax that I "quit without notice, and I was not eligible for rehire." On paper, that made me look like I just walked in one day and said " F you I quit" which certainly wasn't the case. I'd still like to see him in person and "ask" him about that.

I just left a job with the manager from hell. I was pretty sure he was going to do exactly the same (company uses DAC). So I emailed my two weeks notice to him and CC'd it to same lady at HR that did my background check when they hired me.
