First I want to apologize if this has already been discussed on here. I tried searching for an answer to my question before posting this.
I am currently trying to get my Class B license in Illinois because I want to work for a company my friend works at. I would be driving a dump truck to different work sites. My question is would I be required to get a medical certificate in order to get my Class B license? Also would I need a medical certificate if I were to get my Class A license and worked for a company like Pepsi (dedicated route and home every night)?
Thanks in advance
question about the medical certificate

Here is the link for Illinois.

You can't drive a commercial vehicle and be paid to do so without a medical card.

Class A is not valid unless there is a valid medical card.

It is why I posted the link for the State of Illinois for the OP. A friend drives dump trucks just like this poster has asked and the attorney for the construction company has determined that a medical card is not needed. He claims they are Excepted Intrastate drivers and not subject to this. I told him to contact the secretary of state office direct. This was the attorney position early this year.RickG and billyboy316 Thank this. -
Thank you for your responses. So basically Roadmedic you are saying that before January 2012 I could get a Class B license as long as it was intrastate. However now I would be required to get a medical certificate to get my cdl. Thanks I just didn't want to spend the money on something that I didn't need for my cdl.

Another friend drives a dump truck and is never farther than 50 miles from home. He was advised by the Illinois State Trooper, DOT certified that pulled him over when he had one just recently expired, that the truck could be impounded, towed and stored until proof of medical card is provided.
So, you tell me who is right. Attorney or the trooper. -
Yea I think it's just better to be safe and spend the money. That way I do have the option of getting the class A cdl. Thanks again.
