Hi new to the forums, and i have a couple questions about the industry. What creature comforts are common in company trucks? Are APU's and Inverters common? What companies are good about having creature comforts such as these in their trucks.

In a word no. Some company's have them. But most don't care enough to provide them
-
I see a LOT of trucks. I pay attention to see if they have APU. Don't see too many.
I hear MOST companies will have a cow if you hard wire in an Inverter.
My first PAM truck had no APU and my second one had one that I could not use.
I wish I could tell you more. -
I see. Also i have seen in other threads OTR drivers talk of being "assigned" trucks. and even having the company install an inverter for them. When you get hired on, and eventually go solo as an OTR driver, are you typically "assigned" a truck that's yours to drive for you're foreseeable future with the company? or are you going so be given whatever truck happens to be available when you come back from offtime.
Sorry if some of these questions seem petty or silly,I'm reading as many threads as i can trying to get a grasp of how the industry works, and asking questions to fill in the gaps of what I haven't seen mentioned in other threads.
And if a truck doesnt have an APU how do you sleep incab on those 90+ degree days? do you leave the truck idling? or just grit your teeth roll down your windows and put up with the heat? -
Mostly the trucks that have an APU are o/o. If you cant use the APU and its hot by all means you run the truck but it also depends on the local laws of were you are staying. Some companies give you comforts but those are the high end companies. I think TMC gives you a fridge a microwave and a satellite radio but you have to pay for the radio yourself. Most companies will assign you a truck thats yours until the truck hits the company standards whether it being how many years old it is or how many miles it has on till you get a new one.

Thelona, Good Luck in this crazy industry, You will either love it or hate it and not be able to get away from it fast enough, With these "Creature Comforts" you mention, It is most likely that you will not have these comforts, The first company(ies) that you go with with little to no experience isn't going to provide those, The first company I went with I was in a truck with double bunks but we drove as team drivers and so I was never on the top bunk, The second truck I was in, I idled all the time I was stopped in Winter or Summer, If you think you are going to have time to bring a bunch of "Gadgets" to entertain you, you may want to go get an 8 hour a day job sitting at a desk by a guy who showers once a week, that you drive to punch a time clock and then drive home and have 3-4 hours a night to settle in, Out on the road you will be Eating sleeping and doing your job, which includes you inspecting the truck once before you drive it and once after you drive it, And then any paperwork to get you lined up for your next day as well as showering and getting yourself ready to go for the next day, If you happen to be on paper logs as opposed to Electronic logs you need to have your book up to date. Once you get some experience and get things down to a regimen then you can bring the gadgets to watch TV and play games and whatever you want to do. I find my laptop the most important thing I can carry. I wish you luck as you go into whatever you dream of. -

No such thing as a silly question. This forum is for that so you can get answers and know what is what an so forth. So please ask what you need to. Better go informed than not.
There are some states that ban truck idling. Calif and parts of Texas around Dallas and Fort Worth area. There if you do not have an APU then have to grit ur teeth get a small 12 volt fan and do the best you can. More companies are getting APUs as they buy new trucks. It not much cost efficient to put a APU in a truck that will be sold soon. It not always the company do not care, just not wanting to wast money which could go into your pocket instead out the door. It is easier to assume they do not care which yes some do not but most just watching their pennies. -
You can't park here/dont run the truck/no time for a shower and eat while you drive. Now go out there keep America moving. Did I miss anything.
