Thanks, this is something I've dreamed about for many years, and I see many horror story's here, but also many saying those with the horror story's aren't the norm, I'm halfway excited, and halfway scared. Always found enjoyment from being behind a wheel. I have no wife, no kids, and am by nature a pretty solitary person, so I believe trucking is a lifestyle I can thrive in. No way to find out for myself other then jumping in. Either way, I figure better to go for it and find out it's not for me, then to look back years from now and wonder what could've been.

    Chinatown Thanks this.

Stevens Transport has apus in every truck. I just talked to one of their driver/trainers yesterday. Whether they all work is a different story.

Lots of companies have APU's and hire new drivers. Some have their own CDL school or hire new CDL school graduates from private or community college CDL schools.

People might talk a lot of smack about TransAm (mostly the lease), but ALL trucks in the fleet are equipped with APUs, refrigerators, and inverters. Driver comfort is one of their big selling points. They also hire new grads.

Most otr companies assign you a truck once you are done with their training programs you will go thru as a new driver. My old company had APUs but no 110 plugs. I had an old school tv/vcr with an additional dvd player AND a digital converter (since mine was an older non digital tv) with a lighter plug in inverter as my company wouldnt allow direct to battery hookups. Our trucks always came with a built in antenna which usually caught local stations if you were near a city with tv stations, sometimes I would use Redbox dvd rentals
