How much does or did your school cost Female? I know CRST costs roughly $900 in the end run but most of that is pd out of your checks via $40 per week while you are being pd 22 CPM in your training cycle. CRST says rookies earn about $350 wk starting out and up from there once your training is over. Granted that isn't much but that is the way it goes when starting a new trade. Being a total rookie I don't even know yet how they compute the 22 cpm in this team driving scenario. The lead driver receives 34 cpm. Does anyone know how it is calculated?

I *think* my school cost $3000. I was contemplating doing schooling through a company, but decided against it. Instead I'm going with Schneider, and they'll reimburse you a certain amount a month, or pay check (I forget), for the school expenses. Many companies do, this isn't Schneider specific, definitely.

I also *think* that CSRT said that they take whatever miles driven that week and divide it straight in half. If you drove 3000 and your partner 2000, you're both are going to be paid X amount a mile at 2500 miles.

It just honestly seemed like there were better team options out there. But then again, I gotta take each recruiter's presentations with a grain of salt. Our CSRT recruiters were new, and definitely didn't know how to sell their company as well as the others. For all I know, they're all full of crap. I just hope I'm going with the lesser of the crappy starter companies out there. That's about the best I can do, I suppose.

Female--I probably have a little advantage over others in that I am not taking up this new career at age 65 to make a lot of $.My motivation is I want to stay busy and make a few $ and travel around and that's about it. When one isn't inundated with bills one can ease up a little and I consider sitting on my backside getting paid for it to be a lot easier than the construction industry I have been in for 40 yrs!--lol!

As a rookie I am guessing but I would imagine a team might occasionally rack up 1000 miles per 24 hr "shift" but I assume the average will be closer to 3/4000 miles per week dependent on luck of the draw AND ones all important attitude.

Ray almost every company hires solo drivers. As you know CRST is team operation and if you can't find someone to team with once training is over, they'll find someone for you.I don't know why they're team, alot of times they're doing solo runs.Which means you'll be making spending money is all with CRST.

Thanks for the input Patty. My main priority as a rookie isn't making a ton of $ and I realize most companies require at least 3--6 months OTR experience to hire on so for me low pay in the 1st few months with CRST is not an issue. The experience/knowledge gained in the 1st few months will pay off down the road. Being teamed with someone I can't get along with would obviously be an issue and I am sure that issue will arise. Quite honestly I don't understand how a trucking company can survive by trying to team strangers but CRST survives so they can't be all THAT bad. --I guess I'll find out!--lol!

Ray I do like your attitude. You're going to go along ways in this industry. When I first started I knew I would'nt make alot of money.Trucking is a very demanding carreer and there's no give and take. It's all about the company.More ppl then not don't make it because nothing seems to go their way.But if you can develope a good relationship with your dispatcher they will try and work with the drivers within reason. But companies as a whole can really put stress on you.But there's nothing you can do about it.They will not cater to any single driver. You either suck it up or move on.Companies could care less if you quit or not.Drivers are only hurting themselves.
