Don't know where you're coming up with this idea.

Most companies that I know about either hire straight out of CDL school and train you or require at least 2 or 3 years experience OTR before they will even talk to you.

You should really check around before making any decisions.

Patty-- Most people fail to realize things like they themselves are NOT the only individual a person like a dispatcher has to deal with. Dispatchers jobs are to cause freight to get from point A to point B and they are feeling the heat from their boss. The drivers job is to get it there and the dispatcher does not have the time or inclination to try to satisfy the drivers wish list or listen to drivers petty complaints. Many of these companies have hundreds of drivers and I have no clue as to how the driver/dispatcher ratio works out but I am sure there is not an overabundance of dispatchers relative to drivers. I, of course, have an advantage in that I am not in it for the $ but I am sure adequate $ will be coming my way. Its really just all about ones attitude and doing your best to get your job done to the best of your ability.

FWL-- All I know about the industry is what I read and I have read a lot lately. I have seen a few companies that require only 3 months OTR experience but most seem to require a yr or more. In my case I have no accidents, no DUI's, no felonies, no misdemeanors, no tickets in the last 10 yrs and etc so that will probably help to get hired on should I find out CRST and I are not compatible.

Think long and hard about jumping ship before getting a year with one company under you! I didn't and have had to start all over again. They may say they'll hire you with little or no experience, but if you've left a company they ask you nine ways to Sunday and back again why you did so. Even if your reason is legitimate, try to stay. I wish I had seen this forum before ever starting in this career. I would've made a better choice to start with. These people tell it like it is on here and are tremendous help. In the end, though, you gotta do what feels right for you. If you feel you don't want to team, then go thru another company to get your training. One that you feel you will be able to stay with for at least a year.

Rebel--CRST requires an 8 month contract after graduating. I will satisfy that contract and go from there. I will likely find several drivers I can get along with and several I can't. I understand why CRST likes to hire existing teams like husband and wife teams but I do suspect I will prefer going solo in the end. I may well end up driving mostly solo for them--There is no way to know at this point.
