Hazmat not required although it does allow you to be able to have more runs to choose from. It just makes you more marketable as a driver. Not a problem at all when freight is good but can definately be very beneficial when freight is slow.

Trainers... there are definately great ones and there are MOST definately sorry ones. They are currently revamping the mentor process (supposedly) to ensure the sorry ones are weeded out. If you do wind up with a sorry one the Driver Services folks have no problems at all with you switching to another mentor. However, you have to be honest with them up front when the problems first arise. You can not wait until your fourth week and then suddenly say the person is nasty etc. and expect them to believe you. If however from day 2 you have said that and then in week 3 you want another they will gladly fix you up.

Split training.. No clue at all on this honestly. I can speculate that it would be something they would not encourage however. Once they get you on the mentors truck their goal is to get you properly trained and on your own truck. Of course that is just my opinion.

Good luck with whatever you decide and stay safe out there.

They dont do split training, I think you'll get days off when your trainer does though, if he takes any.

Find my post on the Swift is Good thread for a bit more info. Havnt left yet but Im looking forward to it.

The hubby had every other weekend off. This was due to his trainer have a dedicated route and taking off for his children for his every other weekend visitation.
