Sounds like a good deal.
Being an owner operator leased to prime.
They must be fairly new trucks.
Whatpercentage do they pay ? -
They say they pay .35/ mile. And the trucks are brand new 2012 freightliners with all the bells and whistles. That's why I'm suspicious. you know what they say: if it sounds too good to be true...
-
I heard that !!
.35 a mile, for a new driver is decent. -
I've heard of them... this guy I believe is leased to Prime - if you drive for him, you're his employee not Prime's. He keeps the trucks long enough to completely depreciate them, then gives you the truck for $1. You get all the headaches, and a truck with nearly a million miles on it. So... if you get your training through Prime and then jump to this guy, you'd have to do it after a year with Prime - otherwise you're liable to pay back half to all of the tuition for your CDL instruction.
As for pay, you'd do better on the Prime side in a lightweight with the fuel bonus. If you go through the threads in the Prime folder, I'm sure you'll find something recent on it. As far as being an "owner operator" - there's a lot more to it than just getting in a truck, and driving down the road. Get a couple of years of experience, and then consider your options.Last edited: Nov 20, 2012

I have met Corey, and he is not a crooked player. His business model does include achieving truck ownership if you stick with him. He tries to recruit and train students, selecting the best to drive for him. If he trains them, they don't owe Prime the year or the $3500. He doesn't get the bonuses either. The last driver I met was in a '12 cascadia that he got to decal with Steelers stuff. He told me he was getting paid .43CPM. Corey does require the drivers to take trainees occasionally. His drivers should be getting the truck at about 450k to 600k miles. If they are driving it from new, they should know how well it was kept up. I wouldn't shoot down his business model until you sit down with him and talk to him. He might be hard to reach, as he was only looking to put 10 trucks on the road.

If he trains them.... if you do PSD, that's not an option. Umm... just thinking here, for 5 years that's about 1700 to 2300 total miles per week.

raise your hand if you are not an instructor or a trainer.
He certainly can go PSD as part of this guy's company. -
Sorry to bust your bubble but it is true. When I completed my training I got a 2012 with 103 miles on it, Kept it for 45k then got a 2010 condo with 200k on it to become a trainer

Does anyone read these threads from the beginning?
He's not talking about Prime. He's talking about driving for a guy who contracts his driver's to Prime.
