Depends on what they mean by "serviced". That sounds like about triple, but I do my own, so I can't say. The basic stuff is pretty easy to do. Oil change, filters, belts, alt. Easier than working under the hood of a 4 wheeler.
I'm sure they do more than I do, but $300? I'd ask for a full descripion of services performed. -
do you change the fuel filters also it looks easy to change the oil and filters
-
Yes. The fuel and oil filters are the easiest part. Right in front, easy easy access.
-
i think i will do it myself are the belts are hard to tighten up
-
Depends which ones, but generaly speaking, no.
-
will you be on the road in the morning i might need to ask you some questions how much are you usually out of for parts for the oil change and filters
-
2 oil filters and 1 fuel filter + 5 gallons oil cost roughly $75. But I'm thinking you'll pay more if you go to that TK dealer for these parts. You should find them cheaper at a tractor supply type outlet.
Go open your reefer doors and peek inside. It's all right there.Last edited: Apr 27, 2009

thanks for your help 2 oil filters + fuel filter and thats it nothing else i need to know about

Look, there's a vast difference between a full service that the Thermo King dealer is offering, vs just changing your oil and filters. I'm thinking maybe you ought to at least take it to a truck stop or a general diesel maintenance shop and get the basic type reefer PM service which should be around $100, and if they'll let you, watch and ask questions.
Don't take this the wrong way dood, but.... have you ever changed oil in anything? If so, and you have done your car/pick-up at least a few times, then you'll have no trouble with the oil/filter change on your reefer. It's all the same, except you'll be either standing on a ladder or the catwalk of your tractor, and holding the oil catch container, instead of it laying on the ground like with your 4-wheeler.
But like I said prior, and do note this, you will get a very thorough inspection from a pro, in addition to just changing oil and observing that the belts are still there.
There used to be a guy here who'd posted tech tips on reefers by the name of reefertech (or close), who'd answer questions like yours, but I havent seen him post in some time. Probably got banned like most everyone else here. Would be worthy of a quick search on your part tho.
Do you own your own reefer, or looking to buy one?
