I took the advice from you guys and kept pushing and looking. This morning I applied at FFE, probably 5 hours later they called me and told me they have already run me through all of the checks, I have one piece of employment that I need to verify. But they offered me a seat in their next class. I know it is not flatbed but it is a step into the trucking business.
Question for some of you experienced guys

What I mean is when you apply for a job and you follow what the others do you'll be placed in a stack of applications that the companies have nothing to go by. If you apply in person with an application then they can place a face with the application and you'll stand out a little better. If you find a company you really want to make a career with and you keep going in, say every month, to check then they really know who are. If you tell them you really like their company and ask them what you can do to get hired then they may start to help you. That is if there's no jobs at the time. If you say "I know you have no opennings right now but do you know of a company that will give me a shot that will help me transfer over to you?" Then you might be hired right then, you never know. The problem is applying for jobs on-line. Get out and look, after all it's your career. Do not listen to these recruiters at schools telling you there's no way you can get hired by those people. The only ones that know that information are the ones doing the hiring. A lot will say that it's the insurance companies but fail to tell you there's a lot of companies self-insured. So my point is get out and find out for yourself. Use every tool you can to get hired onto a company you like. You never know what can happen that day and time. I've seen new drivers walk in right off the street and get hired on because a couple of drivers just left. And that was with companies that always stated they need 3 years experience. Good luck. -
People need to take more effort than is required to click "submit" on a website when trying to begin a career.Abrams Thanks this. -
First off a lot of these companies will tell you straight up. Go online to fill out the application. Also guy if that is that 1 year that you can't verify. Unless you are going to make something up. They still might kick you to the curve. I see some people saying they had to get a notarized copy saying they were stay at home dad's and mom's. If you are not prepared to do that. I'd call FFE safety department and ask them if they would accept you without that year of verification. More then likely they will say no without that notarized copy. But at least you wouldn't be paying for their school and you don't get the job.

Thankfully I also went to school during that time, so my school is proven and it covers the time. Sorry I should have updated that info

GasHauler, You made some great points and I am ashamed to say that I had not gone the route of face to face. I used to be a General Manager of a restaurant and I can honestly say, the ones who kept bothering me for a job got hired. They were driving me nuts and I figured if I hire them they will leave me alone. One example: Every day the same guy would call or come in and it was always when I was busy. He turned out to be one of my best employees

I'm not saying every place in the country is open. But having a defeatist attitude right from the start is not wise. I've gotten into some secured areas and asking was the only step I took. Try getting into a pipeline tank farm of a refinery. But if you tell them you'd like to see the department that does the hiring what's the worse they can do? Say no.

Of course there are quality companies that will only accept online applications. FXF and UPS only accept online employment application. The larger point is that there are plenty of good companies that only accept paper applications in person.
Most people apply to Werner, CRST, CRE, etc and the like online because they simply do not want to give the effort required to get off their couch and do some real work to meet with them in person.
