I haven't been able to find any OTR jobs because I live in Florida. I will be moving to Texas (just north of Houston) in July because of this. I have a cousin with a big five bedroom house who is willing to let me stay with her. ANYWAY, I have 8 months verifiable experience. I have a clean driving record and a clean DAC. HOWEVER, I have not driven since May 2009. Does anyone know if Swift will hire me, AND IF THEY WILL, what would the process be for me? Would they put me with a trainer for a little while at first? Would they go ahead and give me my truck? How would they handle this?
I wanted to get some answers from real swift drivers before calling a recruiter. Thanks for all your input.![]()

Your experience is sufficient, and you probably figured it out correctly...out with a Mentor for a couple weeks (maybe less) just to be sure your skills are still there, and the big reason would be to learn the Swift application on the computer.
With a clean background, certified school in getting your CDL, and the verifiable experience...it shouldn't take too long to get behind the wheel of a Swift but slow truck!act6629 Thanks this. -
Swift application on the computer? Are you talking about electronic logs?

I went to CR England's driving school just outside of Dallas back in 2008. I've read a lot of negative reviews of their schools, but it was a fairly pleasant experience for me. Met a lot of people and made a lot of memories.

As Otter said Swift hires out of Florida as well as a few others. Talk to Injun or Nana they aer a big help.

I'm kinda glad they have electronic logs, to tell you the truth. I run my logs the way I'm supposed to and I hate having to send in a macro every single day just to give dispatch an update on my hours. That's what I had to do with my last company. Much rather push a couple of buttons than draw lines anyway. Thanks for the info.

FL has always been a "no mans land" for Swift. the Ocala terminal was only established to cover the K-Mart dedicated trucks for down there...Atlanta washed their hands of K-Mart FL long ago! -
otherhalftw Thanks this.
