    I have a neighbor who had 4 trucks, his own authority & did well until the very large steel co decided to not to let anyone with less than 15 trucks haul their freight. so my friend sold his trucks, kept 1 & leased to the co that took his dedicated runs. though the co did not cut the rates.

    I am with the same co. never had my own authority, always leased. I like it. it may be better if I went on my own, but not willing to risk it. I have very little paperwork. get .40 to .99 cents a gal off cash price at pump. can get tires, major work done,break down on the road, co take care of it & take out of my check. if I want or need a new, or used trailer, co will provide financing.

    not to mention the ease of transflow from home. I have always run on my own money. if I could get the same runs on my own I may have tried it. but my co gets me home everyday, with a good pay & takes care of most of the paperwork.
    if I wanted to to stay out for a few day's at a time or even longer like all week, than I would be looking at doing it all on my own. but for the money I take home & the time I have at home, I would not trade for going it alone right now.

    There is no missing dollar. Ignore $30 -- it is an irrelevant diversion. They each got $1 back so they paid only $27. The room actually cost $25, and the clerk pocketed the $2 difference.

    At the risk of pissing off OscarTheKW, here's one that I hate:

    .99999999... = 1

    let x = .9999999999...
    10x = 9.9999999999...
    10x - x = 9.9999999999... - 0.999999999...
    9x = 9
    x = 1

    Or another way:
    1/9 = 0.11111111...
    2/9'= 0.22222222...
    3/9 = 0.33333333...
    ...
    9/9 = 0.999999999...
