I have been considering starting a driving career. I live north of Birmingham, AL. I wouuld like to know about companpies that have yards or site in Birmingham or Cullman. I don't mind be out for a long time, however I would like to pass through birmingham and would like to be able to be routed to B'ham for home time.
Question from Birmingahm, AL

You might want to sit back and evaluate and re-consider this desicion your thinking about. Not really the greatest time to try to find a trucking job right now esp with no exp. You don't beleive me? There are several dozen here that i could just name off hand that have a cdl but no exp and looking for a job or other people like you thinking about it. Go ask some of them how it is going for them and they'll probably tell you the same thing. If you got a job now, stick with it and thank your lucky stars you have a job.

I agree with cerberus, this is not a good time to start trucking, however to answer your question, melton truck lines has a yard in birmingham, they are a flatbed carrier

I kinda disagree, but only a little bit...

trucking, the whole enchilada, is down. So wanting to be a trucker? It's not the best time.
BUT
It's not the best time for the industry. This doesn't mean that it may not be the best time for you personally.
Where you live and who is hiring locally is all that really matters.
kinda like if things are booming big time all over heck and you live in death valley population 3. it's never a good time to break into trucking...lol
waterloo ia. we just canned a guy... two days later we replaced him with a buddy of mine. my buddy wasn't unemployed, he quit a trucking job to come work for us. now his old company has an opening. They'll take a guy with little or no experience. now that doesn't do you a lick of good but if happen to live in new hampton iowa... trucking prospects are looking up...
citing the national picture is a barometer, but it never tells the story for the individual.panhandlepat Thanks this. -

I am just looking for ome could info an to chat with drivers. I am currently working in IT and doing good. I will not guit this job to do trucking, however if my job ever got in trouble, trucking would be something I would think about. I am currently single(divorce). I spent 5 years in the Army and serve 1 year in Korea. Being alone should not be a problem. I do love to be in contact with my family though. -
Lots of companies have yards in Birmingham.
Find the Flying J truck stop...drive past it about a mile (west). And you'll see several. Many others are scattered throughout the area.
