Hello All, This site is full of good advice and information for the new drivers learning this career. I'm a rookie in help of advice, here's my situation. In April 2010 i got a reckless driving ticket in Richmond Virginia. I was doing 81mph in a 70mph zone. Yes in Va, you can get reckless driving ticket for doing 11mph over the posted speed limit. At this time i was a soldier stationed at Fort Lee, Va with a KY driving license. After retiring from the Military and staying in Va for work reasons, I went to a CDL school in Va. I had to turn in my KY to obtain a Va CDL learner permit. Pass the course and now have my CDL A. When applying to different trucking company I get turned down because of my VA MVR and i understand why. Now I have moved to Tampa, Fl. Now here is my real question, i was told to turn in VA driver license and get an Fl license. Waite about a month then go to CDL school in Fl. Then to apply for OTR jobs and the company will only run my Fl MVR. Is this a normal? I was told that trucker do this often. This is hard to believe that it is that easy to hide your mistakes. I would think that this would show up on that DAC report that everyone talks about. Again this is just a question.

It would not show on dac. why go and pay to get your cdl again when you already have? They are some companies that will hire with that ticket not many but they are some. In April of 2013 it want show on a three year mvr and thats what most look at.

Applications usually require you list ALL the jobs you have had for the past 10 years. The application will also require a truthful account of your DMV record for the past 3 years for ALL tickets and normally 5 years for accidents (some request 10 and in the case of my employer requests all accidents EVER).

There are companies that actually research drivers license records and track work histories that sell this information to trucking companies.

For example my carrier uses an outside firm to collect information about tickets and accidents from every state based on my name, drivers license number, address, and even social security number.

The above agency has my entire driving history (tickets and accidents) including a small fender bender I had in my personal car at a McDonalds parking lot back in 1991 before I ever became a truck driver.

DAC/USIS will have a report on you as well if the carrier you worked for was a participating member.

Now we have another record to worry about which is the PSP. The pre-employment Screening Program will have a list of all DOT inspections and violations you had. CSA scores will also play a role in determining who gets hired and who doesn't.

In short you are being sold a bill of goods. You will not get away with turning in your Va Cdl and then getting a Fl Cdl. The drivers licenses will be tracked and connected by your name.

You will have spent thousands of dollars for school only to be told you have to wait 2 to 3 years to be considered for any driving job.

Following too close, Reckless driving, Driving to endanger, DUI/DWI, or a rear end collision are the kiss of death in this industry (at least for several years).

Why would someone with a serious violation on their MVR move to Florida of all places and then want to get a job in trucking?
