Well I have to do the math on the items I am going to take with me. If I can get away with just getting one that plugs into the 12v outlet that will run what I am wanting to run I will just do that and be done with it. Probably gonna go the way of a 12v Cooler so that should help ease the power need quite a bit as I don't think a Crockpot and Toaster Oven need that much when they run and when those aren't running the TV and Laptops don't use much to charge either..... Just gotta keep researching if it comes down to not being able to have a larger inverter installed *shrugs*

And yeah, I have eaten at truck stops before (living in Oregon and traveling to Hood River and beyond I would stop at Troutdale and eat at one of the stops there) and while the food is good, the cost alone drives me away from it. Add onto that the fact it isn't as healthy as home cooking and there ya go :D

I keep telling myself I'm going to buy me a charcoal grill but I have not done so yet. I would like to have barbeques on Sundays when I am NOT working

You obviously have to be careful how much power you try to pull out of a lighter socket. Another option for you to consider, is called a lunchbox cooker. They do work from a lighter socket. They look like a black plastic toolbox, and provide slow, steady heat. When I was long hauling, my wife would make up several meals for me in aluminum containers, about 1.5 hr before I knew I would be stopping, I would put one in the cooker and plug it in. I then had a piping hot meal ready for me when I stopped. I am pretty sure, most truck stops carry them, although I think I found mine at a Canadian Tire store.

When my husband and I were company, we had a 1500 inverter installed. We had a CB shop do it and Central was happy because they used the heavy gauge wire and the huge fuse right next to the battery. It was on our dime, but well worth it!

That is more than likely what I would do, I wouldn't mind it being on my dime I just don't want them to get pissed and face repercussions due to it so it is good to hear that they don't mind as long as the install was done right by a shop.

I have been thinking of that too, the only difference is my wife will be in the truck with me once I go solo so if anything we may pick up two of those. The largest one I would do plugged in would be 400 Watt and even then I might not do that, the reason I am thinking of a larger one and having it installed is so I can easily power all the things I am wanting to take with us, always good to have a backup just in case though, so might look at a charcoal or propane grill to stash away as an emergency plan.

Don't forget the folding chairs!! Makes it almost a camping trip :D

P.S. it's a small propane grill... Charcoal would take too long to cool, and hard to dispose of the hot briquettes.
P.S.S. sorry the photo is sideways... LOL!

Yeah Propane is the best and Charcoal will only cool down quick if you want to waste water but that just gets nasty (Found that out the hard way lol) It would be something that is more of a reset break cooker or emergency breakdown cooking option.
