I earned my CDL back in Back in March of last year and started driving for Swift. Because They screwed me over badly,I left them after four months and started driving for a company hauling frieght locally. I havent ran more than fifty miles from the terminal since October of last year. Now Im looking for a run that will keep me regional/close to home.
My question is: In looking for a new job, most places want a year or more of OTR experience. Would the time Ive spent hauling frieght locally even be considerd? Or am I going to have to go back to a large carrier and basiclly start over?
Question on experience

It all depends on the company. You'll have to ask them for a correct answer. All anybody here can say is what they've seen where they've been. Some companies do not consider local as experience and some do not count OTR as experience either. That's what I've seen.

GasHauler's got it right. Each company has different policies regarding what they count as experience. One of the factors there will be weather they are self-insured (larger) or have an insurance policy (smaller). A lot of times it's not really a choice that the company has if they are not self-insured - they have to work with what their insurance requirements are. Search the web, and you'll find plenty of info on driving jobs out there, and what their exp. requirements are. You have at least been driving, even if it is local, so it will be a bit less difficult than if you hadn't been driving at all since leaving OTR.
